N8 vs. sand, sun & surf?

I live on a tropical island and was wondering how the N8 would fare in the local conditions. I often go to the beach and even though I take care of my phones, the N8 would be exposed to the occasional grain of salt and sand. The salt here eats away at everything, from door hinges to car chassis. Likewise, sand also gets in my clothes and bags. With a lot of ports and buttons on the N8's body, I'm afraid I'll start seeing sand behind the screen glass before long.

In addition, this is not Finland - it gets hot.

pretty sure it would be fine as the outside is aluminium, plastic and glass, so nothing to rust.would probably keep out of the ocean though

The N8 is faily rugged but is not designed to be dragged across the beach. Nokia have pretty high robustness on all their phones...

There are 2 open sockets without cover on the device - the Micro-USB port and the 3.5mm jack.

It'd be worth noting the camera glass has no protector so it is possible that could get scratched. I'd say go for it - as its a fantastic phone...but perhaps get some sort of case that keeps the majority of the sand and salt out of it.

Took mine to the Canary Islands at the end of November for two weeks. No scratches but have a few small grains of sand lodged down one side of the screen. It's not a biggie for me though.
