Can I drop a new app in from my PC?

I've got an app that I downloaded onto my PC. Can I hook up my Mini to the PC and drop the app it into the relevant folder on the PC and then install it on the device in the normal way?

Doesn't matter. Drop it anywhere on the phone you have access to (I'd put it on the top/root of the memory card or mass memory you see when connecting the phone in USB/Mass storage mode) and use the file manager on the phone to launch the installation.

As I don't own an N97 , I don't know exactly , but it is something like : Menu > Office > Filemanager .
After you find the file on the memory(card) , you can install the Application from there . Once installed you can remove the file . Or just keep it for future occasions . It's handy in cases like hardreset .

A great third party Filemanager is X-Plore : http://www.lonelycatgames.com/?app=xplore

😊 Regards jApi NL

Hiya jApi NL and thanks ... I've been getting confused as even when connected via USB cable, the PC seems to register the device and attribute it to mutliple "locations". It's something to do with Bluetooth. If I switch Bluetooth off both on the device and the PC then Fle Manager (on the PC) simply attributes the device to only one drive, labelled Ovi. This is what threw me at first, as all the Bluetooth connections identified the device by name N97 Mini, as indeed does Ovi Suite itself when I fire up that.

But ...... all this and indeed everything I have learned over the last fortnight may have been a waste of time as it appears it may not be possible to use anything other than the basic English character set. I can't find any way to access other Latin characters such as: (or French or German pr Spanish letters). If so this would make the device useless to me 😮

YAAAAY!!!! Just found how to get other eurpopean letters:

Press AND HOLD DOWN the Sym key and then press the letter you want the alternative for. PHEW! Reeeesult. Pressing the letter more than once cycles through a series of alternatives but the great thing (for me) is that the firs one is ..... Finnish 😊

SORTED:

Buried in the Ovi Suite Help files is this: (this is the local link to your Help installation: file:///C:/Program%20Files/Nokia/Nokia%20Ovi%20Suite/Help/Nokia_Software_Updater/About_installing_device_applications.htm)

Installing other applications

If you come across an application you would like to install on your device, double-click the application's installation file, or drag the file onto your device's image in the device area. Then click OK in the dialogue that opens. This will start the application installation.

If you are starting the application installation from the internet, click the download link of the application, and choose to open it with Nokia Ovi Suite in the dialogue that follows.

The supported installation file types for device applications are the following:

.sis
.sisx
.jar
.n-gage
.wgz
.nth (Series 40 devices only). If you are unsure whether or not your device is a Series 40 device, check the applicable device's technical specifications from http://www.nokia.com.

Note:

If you have multiple devices connected to Nokia Ovi Suite, the application is installed to the currently active device (that is, the device that is currently selected in the device area).

BUT only sort of When I dragged and dropped it said fine followed by Oops and an eror code 2153775105 AND THERE'S NOTHING IN THE HELP FILE ABOUT ERROR CODES!!!
