Sat Nav Without Sim?

Hi all

Can anyone tell me if it's possible toi run a 5800 as a Sat Nav without a sim card inserted and if so how?

Many thanks

Arkie.

When Maps are not preloaded on the device , you will need internetconnection . The same as for Google Maps . This cost a lot of data transfer .

For the aGPS (assistedGPS) , you will need a SIM to get a fast GPS satellite connection . Assistence is realised by GSM/GPRS radio towers . That's why SIM is needed . That cost only 4kB data transfer .

You can preload the Maps of the countries , you are travelling in , on your memorycard .
Use the Maploader on your PC to get the appropiate Maps .
I think the latest OVI Maps beta , from Nokia Betalabs , can also download the Maps for preload .

When you are a bit geeky , you can also preload the Maps direct on your phone via this link : http://symbian.clanteam.com/

All the Maps must be stored in the Folder "Cities" on the Memory Card . It's recommended to delete the old files first , before the new Maps preload .
