Symbian^3 beginner's guide?

Man, does it ever feel humbling to have to make a thread with a topic name like that.

Background story: I'm migrating over from a Nokia N900 that decided to stop receiving telephony signal after 14 months. Considered picking up another one, but the keyboard & screen on the E7 convinced me otherwise.

As a result though, I'm dealing with a completely new operating system and I've gone in a little blind! I've done a fair few things to get it running how I like, but there's still work to do. As such, does anyone know where I could find a solid walkthrough on the ins & outs of Symbian^3? Or S60v5, or most any version I suppose; there's enough similarities that I like to think I could join the dots. Alternately, maybe you guys could help me figure out the answers to a few questions I have!

- FLAC playback. It looks like the best option is to get FolderPlay, however like a few other S^3 users I'm getting the "Certificate Expired" error. Changing the phone's dates won't work, and the application manager settings are configured in the correct fashion. What else should I try?

- USB OTG. Given the 200mA restriction, I've been wondering if using a portable hard drive in conjunction with something like the Energiser XP18000 (http://www.xpalpower.com/us/products/xp18000/), running the two of them through a USB Y-cable would work. Has anyone tried this, and if so, did it work out?

- Instant Messaging. Currently I'm running Nimbuzz, which does the job well enough however I have two gripes with it, namely notification style and Contact List integration. I'm guessing the latter could only be rectified if Nokia themselves decided to release an IM product for S^3, but is there any other IM software that has notifications that don't get in the way so much? I have friends who like to type 10/20 lines in a row. To have to individually hit Cancel for each of those lines is pretty infuriating.

Thanks in advance, everyone.
