Changing UTMS/WCDMA from 900 to 850

Is it possible to change my N97 to work on the WCDMA 850 band?

It works fine for normal use but I cant use 3G features unless I change my network provider and the other network providers in my area don't have the same coverage as I do with my current provider.

I know the American version operates on WCDMA 850 but I live in Australia and the phone was never bought out here with Telstra (the company that uses WCDMA 850).

I don't really want to buy another phone as I only bought this recently and I cant afford another so soon. I also thought about swapping it with someone but I doubt anyone in the USA would have any use for an Australian version.

The next phone I buy will be 4G so I don't really want to buy another one for the same reason, 4G will be released here in a few months but Ill probably wait a year or so for the prices to come down a bit and for some good ones to be made.

Thanks if anyone can answer.

As far as I know, it can't be done. You need to get a new phone, if you want to use the phone on a network which the phone doesn't already have support for.
