Best and Popular BT Headset

35 replies · 5,390 views · Started 01 April 2003

I am thinking of buying a BT headset but I am confused on which brand is the best for the P800. I have read another forum saying Jabra is the best on top of the HBH-60. Some say that HBH-60 is to the way to go because it is made for the P800 and by SE. I've seen a lot of BT headsets in expansys like Siemens, Motorola, etc. Any advise, ppl?

Personally I am using the Bluespoon headset. It is the only one that does not go over the ear, but sits in it. I have found it excellent even though some say the sound quality is not perfect...

Good hunting!

I just bought the Jabra 200, and after a few days use, I can really recommend it! Comfortable on your ear, good sound, and generally easy to use.

The power supply is rather bulky, but I can live with that.

The big advantage with the Ericsson headsets is that you can use the same charger as your phone..

I use Jabra BT200. I can recommend it too.
It is very comfortable, small, and compared with SEs HBHs about 40-140 cheaper in Austria.
The standby time is enough for me, I can use it the whole week, more than Jabra declared in manual.
But I think you should try more headsets, and decide what one fits you best.
The argument that the HBHs are made for P800 from SE is ok, but I have no problems with my Jabra voice dialing and answering works fine, also the name of an incoming call I can hear very good.

Have fun with your headset, with Jabra or an other. Bluetooth headset are fine.

Jabra BT200 here as well - excellent voice dialling response, clear speaker and very comfortable too.

I tried the SE HBH-60 and the voice dialling was more hit and miss, also it was faulty too. May have been linked but I doubt it.

Very happy with the BT200! 😃

There are alot of bluetooth headsets out now. Personally i believe they are all good. The best way to choose which one is best for you is to try them on. Ultimately it is the comfort factor which counts. You wouldnt want a headset that looks cool on the hand but hurts like hell. You will be wearing it for extended periods so choose well 😊

Thanks a lot guys for the very interesting reviews. It seems that Jabra is the recommended HS. Has anyone got the Jabra BT300 yet? As per expansys, it is coming soon. Is expansys the cheapest or is there any other place where I can order or buy the Jabra BT200 or 300 in UK?

christomas, thanks for the great advise.

I have a bad experience with the HBH30. Sound quality wast that good either. I have not tried the BT200 yet but I would recommend it since a lot of people have tried it and are happy. 😊 Im ordering one from HK but SARS is getting in the way 😞

I believe extele.net (based in Leicester) are a few quid cheaper than expansys on most items. Looks like they keep a close eye on the expansys web site and deliberately under cut them by a small amount. May make up for it in P&P tho. But worth a look.

Slightly off topic but :
How do these BT handsfee devices manage mixed use with two phones. Doe's one always have to pair them again ? I'm expecially interested on the Jabra BT200.
If you pair them with two devices, whichever rings first gets first priority.
Thanks for fast answer. I sincerely hope it is accurate. But on what You base this information ?
The only information I have found is about a Nokia headset that "automatically reconnects to the default phone and last used phone". Which is more or less useless when one alternates using two phones.

I tested my HBH30 with my P800 and my old T68i(which is with my mom now) and my girlfriends nokia 3650 😊

So I might assume this is true for HBH30 and later SE BT headsets.
Thank You, Muzikfreakah.
Does anyone know about other brands ?

I've ordered the Jabra BT200 and it should be here in 2 weeks time. Since I still have my old T68i, I will test what phone_switcher have stated.

Just thought you guys might like to know that the BT200 was on sale in Derby Orange shop for 59.95 this afternoon.
I saw it and thought "Better check what people think on the Symbian boards..." D'oh! :-?

See if I can get a lift over tomorrow...

Thanks for the info guys. :bday:

Hmmm..that's a good price. I've ordered mine for 69.95 including VAT.

Jabra 200..........some thoughts....

Just got my Jabra BT 200 handsfree (about 10 days ago actually) and have some issues with it. In a controlled environment (like in my car) it works perfectly but the moment I step out of my car, the voice quality deteriorates dramatically, there are noises and the conversation keeps getting cut inspite of the fact that my P800 is in my pocket so that is less than a metre away. Don't know what could be the problem. Anyone else have this issue with the Jabra?

My BT-200 can't be paired to more than one device. I didn't read the manual that well or it didn't state it there. Our P800 can be paired to multiple devices, but the BT-200 can't be paired to more than 1. It can't serve two masters at a time. Either it is paired to one phone and serves that master, or you'll have to re-pair it to another phone to serve that master in turn.

the Nokia HDW-2 can be paired to 8 devices, and compatible with our P800, but i didn't find it comfortable wearing it.

@vikasmal- i think i may have that problem also, but it may be because the battery level of our BT-200 is low at that time. Lower battery level may hinder better reception. But that is just my observation.

@dummian- i can't hear the voice ID of the person calling. Barely the latter part of the recording. I'm not sure if my unit has a problem.

THanks for your reply Fonzki but the problem with the BT Jabra 200 persists even if it is fully charged, i.e. the voice quality when out in the open is quite bad with frequent cracking and noise. So I wonder if it is limited to my headset or is it a universal problem?

viksmal,

I'm getting similar results, even in a controlled (albeit RF-noisy) environment of my workspace.

I get OK-ish results at the beginning, but about 5 minutes after I pull the unit out of the charger, audio quality (particularly my voice for the people on the other end) deteriorates and people complain that the audio is choppy.

This occurs even if the unit is less than 1m away from my phone & on the same side of my body!

I asked for a replacement and it's being shipped to me. I have to wait until it arrives (They're shipping to my Netherlands address, so it will take a loooong time before I actualy get my hands on it).
My BT-200 can't be paired to more than one device.
Thanks for this information.
I suppose, I must still wait for a BT-headset that is both confortable to wear and can be used with at least two phones.

Hmm.. I came to work this morning planning on ordering a Jabra BT-200, but after reading oferlaor and vikasmal's experiences, I'm not so sure.. Isolated incidents, or does everyone actually experience the same problems?

Thanks,
Aaron

Well AaronJb, the problem with the Jabra 200 is that in a controlled environment, like in my office/home/car with windows rolled up, it works great, the volume levels are excellent and in fact, I usually have to reduce the volume since it can really be loud. But then, the moment you take it out in the open, the sound quality goes phut, it cracks and is noisy pretty much unbearable and unusable. But here is the funny thing; if I take the phone out of my pocket and keep it near the headset, then the sound quality is better (not great but better) which is strange since that means the 10metre distance with BT is more fiction than fact.

Again, wonder if mine is an isolated case and if I need to return this particular headset for another?

Well I've just been given a freebie Motorola HS800 by one of the dealers I do work for! :bday:
Am I chuffed or wot!
Haven't had chance to test it much yet, as the battery was nearly flat - basically it paired, but the sound was a bit scabby - so it's charging at the moment.
It should also pair with my old T68 (pubphone) as it can support 8 devices, so as long as the quality improves it'll be great.

Did I mention it was free? 😮 😊 😃 😃 :P

I own a HBH-60 and am generaly please with it. Quality is great if there isn't too much background noise. With background noise the person you are talking to hears it as well.

If you are willing to wait, we will be seeing new BT headsets later in the year where the microphone is in your ear. It will rely on the vibrations from your jaw bone to transmit sound. Outside noise will effectively be negated at this point.

I had tried on the various models available in Carphone Warehouse and decided on the jabra mainly due to comfort factor. The cheapest I could find online was 65.00 inv vat and delivery. Even on ebay 59.99 plus 5.00 postage. I only buy off ebay if there is a worthwhile saving and there clearly wasn't. Anyway, thanks to the earlier post on this group I went to my local Orange shop, asked how much the Jabra BT-200 is and they said 79.99, I mentioned that apparantly the Derby Orange shop has these on sale for 59.99 and the shop attendant said perhaps the price has changed and when she checked it came up as 49.99.

The Orange folk in the shop however were convinced that the Jabra did not support voice functions, I disagreed and said according to Jabra website that it. They got the manual out and sure enough it said that if the phone supports voice functions then it works. They further went on to say that even though it says that in the book everyone that bought one returned it as it did not support voice functions when they tried it. However, upon further questioning it seemed all those returns were from people with Nokia's. I had read somewhere else that Nokia's do not seem to support voice functions with Non-Nokia BT headsets so I mentioned this to the Orange people. They said they have a 14 day return policy on these too and if it doesn't work or I just don't like it, bring it back anyway. So that's 50 all in for the Jabra BT-200 plus 14 days to trial and see if it works and I actually like it. Hard to say no really.

I've got it and it's comfortable. Sound is very clear (at close proximity). Voice functions not only work but work very well (with SE P800). I think a realistic distance is more like 10 feet than 10 metres (indoors). Very pleased and recommend it. Not sure about battery yet. The downside for me is carrying two chargers but small price big saving.

Thanks again to the person who mentioned the Orange shop sale.

I just took delivery of a Jabra BT-200 as well - so far it's been OK, admittedly I've only really used it once, indoors, at home, right next to the phone 😊 But the call quality was fine..

Now if I could just get the voice recognition to work with the word 'Parents' 😊
