Google Maps on N8

Is Google Maps supposed to work on the N8?

It installs ok but when I try to run it the little green circle icon appears to show it's starting but after a couple of seconds it disappears and the app never runs.

I've tried installing to E: and C:, I've rebooted a few times, I've made sure no other apps are running, I've tried it with a data connection (3G and wifi) active before the app starts.

Anybody know why this is?

Thanks
M

N8 with firmware version 014.002 (also known as "PR1.2"😉.

Installed Google Maps 4.1.1 from http://m.google.com

Seems to work fine (also running the browser and camera apps at the same time).

Hmmm, I have same firmware. I'm wondering if this is failing for the same reason as the Ovi Store installation...I messed with the OS/Qt libraries.

Is working great here... have you tried to install any other app? Perhaps is the same bug I had with Nokia Smart Installer... I had to hard reset to get it solved...

A hard reset did occur to me but I was trying to avoid it as I have everything set up nicely on my phone at the moment.

I've actually ordered another N8 and am going to wipe this one and give it to my wife. The Qt libs and other probs will never be an issue for her, she just wants the camera, swype, sms conversations and the nice orange colour.

Well it's now ten months on and several official & unofficial firmware flashes later google maps still is not working.

My N8 currently has the latest official Belle firmware.

Something that might be of note is that Nokia Drop (from Beta Labs) does not work either, it starts up but then sits there "Connecting...".

I've tried all the wifi on/off suggestions from people but google maps does not work on my N8 or my C6-01.

I'd love to know why this is.
