How can I browse around the ROM in my Nokia 9500?

Q. How can I browse around the ROM in my Nokia 9500? It's always interesting...

A. You need to start up the free 'Zip manager' utility bundled with the 9300 and 9500. Unlike the standard File manager, Zip manager includes an extra preference, 'Show Rom drive'. Set this to 'Yes' (and make sure 'Show system tree' is also set as 'Yes', while you're there). Now create a 'New archive', give it a name (e.g. 'TempZip') and use 'Add files'. When the file browser appears, use 'Browse' and you'll see that 'Z:' is now shown. Navigate to it and use 'Expand' (or press the right arrow key or navigator), to choose a folder that you're interested in. Once you get to the files you'd like to view or copy, press 'OK' to add them to your new archive. You can then extract the files from this temporary archive to any folder you like for further inspection.
