How can I speed up choosing a message recipient?

Q. Whenever I want to create a new text or email message, pressing 'Recipient' is followed by a wait of over fifteen seconds, which is really frustrating, even when I'm not in a hurry. Why is the Nokia 9500 so slow in this area and is there anything I can do about it?

A. There are two factors at work here and you can do something about both of them. Firstly, it's far more efficient to start off in Contacts, highlighting the person you want to write to and using the appropriate command button ('Write text message' or 'Write email'). Because Symbian OS knows the recipient and doesn't have to open Contacts specially, this method usually brings up a message editing window in a couple of seconds at most.

Secondly, Contacts can start to have problems if you have an inordinately large number of contact entries. From your fifteen second wait, we'd estimate that you have around 1500 contacts. If you can reduce this number by keeping all club or company address books in a separate database, your Contacts use will be speeded up enormously.
