Major problems getting TomTom MOBILE 5 to work

Q. I'm having major problems getting TomTom MOBILE 5 to work. I can't seem to get the file and folder structure right. It works OK on my friend's smartphone, although even then the connection to his (non-TomTom) GPS cuts out every 10 minutes or so. I thought TomTom was supposed to be the best sat-nav solution for smartphones?

A. It is, generally speaking. But because it's top of the tree it's also the biggest target for software pirates, and we suspect that you've bought a pirate copy on CD and are now wondering where to put all the files on your own memory card. We also suspect this because TomTom MOBILE 5 comes with a dedicated GPS and you don't have this either.

It may well be that you bought TomTom MOBILE 5 in good faith from an eBay vendor. The genuine article comes on memory card, with a TomTom GPS and needs 'activating' before use. If your friend's 'copy' didn't need activating, then that's another sign that it's an illegal 'cracked' copy of the software.

The genuine TomTom Mobile 5 works extremely well and is reliable. So there's yet another difference for you... 8-)
