Saving my favourites

Q. I'm going to change devices very soon, but it's going to be a pain having to retype URLS and rebuild my Web favourites. How can I transfer these to the new smartphone?

A. The first thing to try is S60's built-in 'Transfer' utility. Provided your devices are new enough, this should add Bookmarks (favourites) to the list of data that can be automatically beamed across to the new smartphone. Just follow the instructions.

If you're more a 'sync with Outlook' sort of person then you may not be using 'Transfer' at all, or perhaps you can't get it to work with your two devices. Or perhaps you're simply upgrading a single device, using Nokia's Software Update service, in which case it's going to get its memory partially wiped?

So, note that you can also get to your favourites manually, using any third party file browser (e.g. SysExplorer). You'll find them in /Favourites/BrowserBookmarks/Favourites.db

Copy and paste this onto your memory card for safe keeping/backup.

Another 'lateral thinking' approach is to put all your mobile web favourites in a web-side page, such as the mini-portal: http://3lib.ukonline.co.uk/webguidereal.htm - it's only a plain HTML page and you can make your own, accessing it from any device at any time from anywhere in the world...!
