Hi! I'm looking to upgrade my 2-year old E52 and I really need some advice on the alphanumeric keyboard on the 700.
To be honest I really do not want a touch screen device but also I cannot get along with a physical qwerty on a mobile (one handed operation is essential), so is anyone able to advise on the ease of use or otherwise of the alphanumeric keyboard?
Many thanks, Malc.
How about an E7? It has the largest screen in Nokia's current roundoup (4"😉 and it also has a slide-out Qwerty keypad.
I find the on-screen Qwerty keypad to be hard to use in portrait orientation because Nokia's 16:9 screens are too narrow for this. It's a lot easier to type in landscape orientation or use the E7's physical keypad. But all this requires two hands... for one-handed use, you're probably better off using the onscreen T9 keypad.
With both T9 and Qwerty keypads, you can turn on predictive text and auto-correct, so that could make text entry faster and more accurate.
My wife has a 700 and I'm quite impressed with it. She initially didn't want a touch-screen either (having had a bad experience with a Samsung) but finds the 700 quite usable.
As regards the keypad, she's a die-hard T9 user and so hasn't tried the alphanumeric input. I would imagine it might be fiddly for those with large fingers or thumbs.
I find using Swype makes it possible to accurately use the portrait qwerty on my C7 but that is slightly larger.
Thanks for the replies guys.
As I said, I need the ability to use the phone with a "normal" keypad in portrait. I'm also holding out for the 701 which has a slightly larger screen and (hopefully) better battery life.
I'd been really, really hoping that they would have done an upgrade to the E52 but very sadly that's not going to happen. I love this phone but time to move on I guess. *sob*
I used to own an E5 and it was possible to type one handed. Also because it wasn't touch screen, i found i could stretch my thumb to cover most of the buttons, one handed.

I used it for a bit until I installed Swype and it was better than I expected - I have big fat thumbs! Using Swype it's even better - I can type more quickly one-handed on my 700 than I could two-handed on my E7 keyboard.
