Searched the forum and don't really find anything useful for the questions I have. If someone knows, please share your opinions:
1. I bought a load of eBooks for MS Reader to use on my iPaq. My question is whether I can read those on my P800, since their extention are (.lit) whilst the one Mobipocket Reader uses is (.prc). I can't seem to find a way to upload a .lit book to my P800 to test those. Need to use that darn Web Companion interface, and it doesn't seem to recognize my .lit books.
2. Can we open a topic in this forum to use as a place where people can exchange ebooks 😃 That would be real nice !
Appreciate any input guys,
Cheers
You may as well stop wasting your time now. .lit are DRM books and as such to convert it for MobiPocket you'd need to decrypt the book first (which of course would be breaking the law is the good old USofA). There was some info on some newsgroups somewhere but I haven't been successful in converting anything. I have a bunch of eBooks in Palm Reader format (they aren't going to support the P800 - I've asked) and a few in MS Reader format and basically I ended up keeping my iPaq in order to read them.
Personnally I don't think that MobiPocket has a great selection of books, so until they improve the selection and/or support for Palm Reader comes to the P800 I'll be keeping the iPaq 😞
Cheers,
/Trevor

There is a converter though that you can download from mobipocket that allows you to convert text files into an ebook. If you canfind a way to open those ebooks on your ipaq, copy paste them to to a text file and convert them using the converter.. well then.. there you go 😊
Im using the demo version right now and I was able to convert power point files, and exel files 😊 Cool! You cant edit them though but Mobipocket is better than the viewer that came with the P800 though because it converts the file into a smaller file allowing you to save more space 😊 Here are some screen shots of the pp presentation 😊
Until MSReader supports Symbian, this is the 2-step method to convert from Lit to prc format on Windows, then transfer the prc files to your Smartphone.
1. Convert from Lit to htm format: I've used LitConverter (http://www.convertlit.com). It's a freeware and runs fast. Copy the downloaded zip file, unzip to a folder and run LitConverter.exe.
2. Convert from htm to prc: Use Mobipocket Reader on Windows. Drag and drop the htm file to Mobipocket Reader, then send the output to your Smartphone. Your Smartphone can be connected directly for data transfer using an USB cable.
Mobipocket Reader for Windows can be downloaded from www.mobipocket.com
Hope this helps.
In my opinion, if you bought the ebooks and switch to another OS that doesn't support the format you've bought them in, you should get a refund or the books replaced a format that is supported. Some ebook-vendors actually do this, so you could try that first.
ConvertLit may seem illegal, but if the books are bought already, I think it's perfectly legal to convert them to another format yourself as long as it's for your own use.
