Wouldn't it be possible to get a copy of each of the system apps (DESK, MESSAGING ETC.) from somebody's (with a higher software version) 9210 ROM. Then copy the data to an MMC card. Wouldnt it then be possible to bind each of the blue application keys to the relevant, updated software on the MMC?
The only problem would be getting the system to boot up with the new version of the telephone & desk apps, as opposed to the versions stored in ROM, then again there is a piece of software which can run any app on startup, overiding those already running with the MMC versions...
The reason i'm intrested is because i've got a German 9210. If I could get a copy of the english messaging APP i could run it from the MMC card and understand what the hell was going on!
Any comments?
I only have a ER5 background, so the following comments must be seen against that light.
The search sequence for apps search drive Z last. So, it is possible to put a new version of an application in a lower drive and this will override the one in the ROM.
BUT, you will need a RAM copy of the application that you want to put on drive C, D, etc. One can _not_ just copy the app from Z to C and expect it to work. The ROM image is basically one big dll with all the links resolved before writing it to the ROM. So, even though the file in Z is a dll, it is a different dll to the one sitting on drive C
Conclusion if you can get RAM ready copies of the apps, then it should work.

I also come from ER5 and agree with the previous post. However, having tried changing the icons on applications copied from ROM to RAM, the application doesn't pick them up but gets them always from ROM.
Maybe I'm doing something wrong? Anyway, I think there's precious little enough of RAM as it is without copying ROM into it.
