This may be a dumb question but could somebody explain to me why I would pay $60 for MP3Go when I can get MultiMedia Player from PsiLoc with $14.95 and add a free plug-in to play mp3s? Are there different kinds of mp3s that the other can play and the other can't? 😮
mp3 players
Maybe the people behind mp3go are not so smart after all. Mp3go plays only mp3s but psiloc's multimedia player plays also a wide variety of other files like wave, au, etc. And we all know psiloc's high quality of products. In other words mp3go is a waste of money, especially after considering that there are some cd mp3 players on the same price range....
I still don't get why people want mp3 when the wavs are half the size.
OK, Leo had a good reason 😊 Mp3 is easier if you don't have much time, just download and off you go, but still 😊
Yes I agree, wavs are just as good if not better. Today I listened to the same music first in wav and then in mp3 in my 9210 and wav version sounded better (in the mono output, one-eared head set, in a bus, traffic hum everywhere). And like MemphisX said, MultiMedia Player is more versatile, it plays both. This was just a theoretical question. I was just wondering is there something I don't know that would explain the high price in MP3Go. Why do they think people would pay so much money for something they get with less money elsewhere? Even the people who want mp3s. They can't be that stupid? There has to be a reason, right? Right?
Waves?Standard pcm or sth else(like adpcm, gsm, etc)? The pcm has better quality than mp3 but too memory hungry u know...
I've been using either IMA ADPCM (8,000 kHz 4 bit mono) or lately CCITT A-Law (8,000 kHz 8 bit mono) settings when converting and both sound ok. Latter makes the file slighly bigger (perhaps sounds better too although it may be just placebo effect), but both are smaller than the original mp3. Don't ask me what they are, you probably know better 😉

Yes indeed, MemphisX run it through MultiMediaConvertor from Nokia and you'll get wav files that sound better (on a 9210) than a mp3 + is half the size.
And yes I like MultiMedia Player the most 😊
I don't like the quality of these codecs at the frequences you've mentioned. Gsm codec does the job for me. Better quality than mp3s and 1/5 compression ratio compared to standard pcm. I use winamp for encoding...
By the way i don't have a 9210. I have a 7650 but i would love to have a qwerty keyboard and an mmc slot... Well maybe my next phone will be the next communicator...

I will try that codec! and yes the communicator is great!
Only thing I don't like about it is the mono ...
I think is about time someone defends the honour of MP3go. I have this and WAVgo for differenp purposes and I think it is well worth the money. The Psiloc player seems only to work with MP3s of 128kbps which is huge. The sound system on the phone not that good so it is a waist of valuable memory. Mp3go goes down to 8kbps. This is a bit too low for most things, but is sufficient for speech. I tend to use 16kbps. For some this may be a bit low, but you are already limited to one ear phone and I can get 8 times as much music that the 128kbps.
People keep going on about the fact that the WAV files for the nokia are smaller than the mp3s, but nobody ever mentions the bit rate. I would imagine that an MP3 of 32kbps and maybe even 64kbps is still smaller than the wav.
I bought the WAVgo, because I needed to do some recording to help with a memory technique for an exam I was doing. Would have prefered the MP3 as the 8kbps would have done, but I do prefer this program. I like the fact that it plays in the background when you are doing other things.
Anyway, I was happy to pay the price and the 10 albums of music I have on my 128mb MMC make it great value
Ok pal here is a comparison of the gsm codec bitrates... 44khz/mono=72kbps 22khz/mono=36kbps 11khz/mono=18kbps 8khz/mono=13kbps. Has better quality than mp3 on the same bitrates and also on my 7650 (confirmed to also work on p800 and 3650) i don't need any third party program to play them, just the standard voice recorder.
Not sure If I understand all you said.
On the 9210 standard Nokia multimedia converter there are two levels high and low. What are the bit rates of those.
For me, when I take a low bit rate MP3 and convert it to WAV it gets bigger.
If you are telling me that I can get WAV files to the same size and better quality than a 16kbps MP3. I will be a very happy person as I can then listen in the background while I do other things
For the point about not needing any extra player to listen to WAVs, I grant you this, but the point is that you can only listen to one at a time. I want to listen to an album off different songs. I woud say this last point was less relevant that the first bit (if you don't mind me saying)
I use MultiMediaPlayer with wav and it works great in the background while emailing and typing documents.
Why won't you start posting some demo wav/mp3 with the used bitrate and codec.
We can do some serious comparing ...
Personally I found MP3go to be crap. Definately not worth the money, especially when RealOne player is downloadable for nowt, and real media files have better audio quality than MP3 at low bit rates or under 56kbps. But then when it came out nothing else played MP3s and they knew that they'd get the early adopters at that price as people generally have loads of MP3s these days, and didn't consider they may recode the files to a more usable format.
I tried to upload a WAV And MP3 but it seems that MP3s are blocked for the forum.
The MP3 that I tried was sampled at 16kbps and I put it through the Nokia MMC, it doubled in size
I guess the important thing is that everyone seems happy with their own MP3 player.
Enjoy the music!!
yeah it has to be zipped bedfore you can upload it 😉
Indeed as long as everybody is happy 😉
if it comes to a vote, ill go with psiloc's multimediaplayer 😃
