Real Music as ringtones?

27 replies · 4,871 views · Started 09 April 2003

I am considering purchasing a 3650 but I wanna have real music as my ringtone. My a500 did it and I was quite happy. Is there a way to do this? Also does the memory expand? How much? Can i play video? Basically im looking for some of the cooler features of the phone and I would like to know if you can add music to make the ringtone a portion of a song. Also what kind of os does it run? What progs does it come with? Thanks in advance I really appreciate it.

You can use wav files as ringing tones. It sounds real to me 😊 3650 has a memory slot where you can put MMC (multimedia card) to expand your memory. It can support the 128 mb MMC. Yes, the 3650 can play and record videos. It runs on symbian OS 6.1.

Anyway, here's a example of a wav file that you can put as a ringing tone.

do you upload it thru an ir port? Does it come with the phone? If not can u upload it to a site and get it thru therE? which site? Any info would be appreciated
You can send it to your phone through IR or Bluetooth or even download it over WAP/GPRS
Download it yes but where can i upload my own content? Do i need a wap site or or what? Also where can i buy an ir port? att didint have one on the site.

Eh, What?????? content?? what?? :-?
Buy the phone, read the manual 😃
You can find shops that sell IR's on net, or go to almost any PC store and
buy from there. (Bluetooth is better, though, get it instead)

let me clarify. By content i meant data such as wav files. I previously owned a samsung a500 and needed to view wap sites to get my content. This is frustrating because i dont know the first thing about wap sites and just want to upload the info to my phone. I dont own it yet buy was a perspective buyer. As for the ir port, nokia carries only this.http://www.nokiausa.com/nokia_accessories/3650/1,1424,100,00.html and im not sure that this will do what i want it to do which is transfer data to my phone (obviously). Bluetooth is about 100 bucks and out of my pricerange. I just want to be able to send data to my phone since the data plans for att suck 😞 . What im confused about is where i plug in this ir port to my comp? Is this like a usb connection to a port and i just link it to my phone? the one in the link didint sound right. Also will any ir port work with my phone or does it matter? I have one from my casio watch camera and was wondering if that might work. A link to show me what i need would be appreciated. Hope i cleared this up

Ok, now I understand. 😃
First, you can get BT for under 40$ here. (MSI PC2PC)
Almost all BT adapters use USB connection.

Most IR adapters should work with 3650.
I myself have IRMate 210, and it works really fine.

That one connects to PC via Com port, you might be able to find USB ones.

There's an IR that uses USB port. But the price difference between it and the bluetooth is only $20- $30 here in the phils. Better get a bluetooth coz file transfer is much faster and you don't have to align the two devices. You can transfer your data with either devices.

hey thankz for the tatu ringtone !! i really appreciate it.. are there anymore other wav files that you would like to share? anyone has any other wavs?

Sure 😊 Heres some more! 😊 I can also make some for you if i have the song... just tell me what song 😊

Easiest way of downloading stuff vis WAP is not to bother with creating a wap site(You'll struggle to find a free webspace provider with Wap enabled servers).

I simply upload the file I want to my webspace and then enter the direct link to that file into my wap browsers address.

eg: http://www.myspace.com/game.jar

And it will then just download that file. Works fine on my 3510i for ringtones, photo's & java applications/games

ST@RR- maybe you have a ringing tone of Missy Elliot's "Work It". My wife uses a 6100 though. But I guess a midi for my P800 is too much to ask. He He.

(how's your BT-200?)

u really can make some for me? thats so kind of u ! 😊 well wondering if u could teach me how to make those wav files so that i dont have to trouble u.. 😊 im hoping to look for some linkin park or evanescence songs to be my ringtones... 😊 thankz a lot..

It's easy 😊 I'm using Cool Edit Pro and I just save it WAV. You can even use musicmatch jukebox to convert mp3's to WAv's 😊 Anyway, have the song bring me to life by evanescence. here it is. And I'm sorry I don't have the song Work It 😞 But I'll try to download it and make one for you 😊

hey ST@RR...

THANKZ FOR THE RINGTONE... I HAVE TRIED CONVERTING MP3 TO WAV.. BUT THE SIZE IS LIKE... TOO BIG ... HOW DO U MAKE THEM AS SMALL AS 100-200KBS?

By changing from stereo to mono and lowering the frequency from 44khz to 22. You can also use an alternative wave codec. Other than the standard pcm codec you can use adpcm(half size compared to pcm) or gsm(1/5 size compared to pcm). There is a couple of other compatible codecs but these are the best for me...

Memphisx is right. I use WAV GSM instead of PCM to make the file much smaller. And I also use 22khz.

thankz to the both of u... i just tried and i succeeded.. 😊
im still trying to see whetehr there are any formats that can make the file even smaller.. hehe

ok.. ive tried all the options available.. and found out GSM is still the best ... it produces the smallest sizes

thanx for sharing your method on creating wav tones St@rr!! I now created my own cool ringtones 😊 Dont need midi's anymore

So what software allows u to convert from one format to another, and more imptly, adjust the compression ratio to your preferences (eg 44mhz to 22mhz)

Thanks

You can use the Sound Recorder in your windows. It's in accessories/entertainment/sound recorder... for XP. But it should also be there in other Windows OS.
