Check your insurance as it is not covered as it "is a smart phone". My mic has bust and am trying to get a replacement phone sorted out - had one due for delivery and it was canceled as the insurance would not cover it. As I run a company I have free insurance - the Orange care system sees that I am covered but they cannot work out if I am allowed a new phone or not....... 😞

Will keep you posted - suffice to say that this was not mentioned to me when I bought it in Feb from an Orange store.

I specifically asked them about that when I bought my P800 and they insisted that it was covered for the first year just as with any other phone...

Ok, yes you are covered but if they can prove in any way that it is your fault then that will cost you 300 quid - so no more leaving it on the bar etc.

Check the small print.....very carefully!

I know someone that argued this through the Executive Office and was told the p800 *was* a smartphone and is classed like that, but the insurance does cover it.

The issue is whether it is coverred or not though - Orange care does include accidental damage 100% of the time so don't worry about leaving it on the bar...

But I do agree with reading the small print very carefully.. but doesn't everyone???!!!

The phone is covered, but the terms specifically exclude loss through leaving it unattended in a public place.

So don't leave it in the bar... 😉

I cancelled my phone insurance after the only two times (in ten years) I've wanted to claim, it turned out not to be covered. At 48 per year is cheaper just to buy the new phone.

I had the same problem with orange when i bought my 9210 (from an orange shop) They stated it was covered with the insurance, orange stated it was a smartphone so i would need extra insurance.
After alot of battling with orange and the orange shop including the threts of court action, orange stated if i took out insurance on my phone as an extra i would just hve to pay 100 for an emergecy hand set replacement. This was the best result i could accomplish. Hand set prices were 499-1000 at that time so this was a cheep option.
The 100 was refunded to me after alot of dogging them becouse the problem with the phone was origanaly diagnosed as a hardware problem and it turned out to be the orange 3rd party software which was the problem.
Hope this is of some help

Or if you do, just don't tell them.

I had a big go at them for this as well, but didn't think it was worth the risk, and paid the 3.50 a month for the additional insurance.

LOL, that was me - and i've got a note from Exec Office on my account to prove it should anyone at Orange argue otherwise! 😉

Simon: any more details of what this letter says exactly... and advice on which dept i can go through to get this clarified and have my insurance refunded?
