Had my 3650 2 days, and now it won't switch on anymore...

Hi,

God - I really hope someone here can help me !

I got my phone 3 days ago (in the UK) and installed a couple of games on it. Everything was fine until I got an error -

"Out of Memory"

- when I tried to run a game.

Then it said there was an error due to an illegal instruction. So I thought, I'll turn it off & on again to see if that fixes it. So I turned it off, but it just won't turn on again.. It gets to the NOKIA screen, which it displays 2 or 3 times, and then just switches itself off again. It doesn't even get as far as displaying the "clasped-hands" startup movie.

AAAARGH !! I don't believe that this phone's stuffed-up already !!

PLEASE - has anyone got any ideas / fixes / suggestions, etc ???

ps. I intend in the future to be developing Symbian games for this phone.. Is it likely that it'll completely die on me every time something goes wrong ?

When booting the 3650 press and hold the abc button (not 2abc). This will bypass any third party system programs that loads on startup. If this works them uninstall any suspicious program that you think responsible of this whole situation. If not then send it to your nearest nokia service center...

Thanks.

By 'abc' I take it you mean the 'pencil' button ?

Well, I've just tried that & the '2abc' buttons (to perform a safe-mode startup?) but I still get the same thing :

The NOKIA logo is displayed & fades out 3 times in a row, followed by the phone switching itself off again.

I can't believe this !! I've only used it for 5 hours at the max !!!

Anyone else had this problem or similar ? Could it be due to the 1.34 firmware which I've read about ?

That reminds me of my 7650 when i bought it. After two days of use it couldn't boot showing a nice "start up failed contact your retailer". It was sent to nokia. I was without a phone for more than a month. And after that period they gave me a new 7650... No comment

Did you install the dodgy prgram to the MMC?
Try rebooting but with the MMC removed - it may get you up and running again - then read the MMC on a PC and try to remove the dodgy files perhaps?

Just a guess - worth a try.

Cheers.

Unfortunately, no. I've tried rebooting without the MMC in, but with no joy.

Assuming that some dodgy software has stuffed up my phone, is there any way I can fix this kind of problem in future for myself ? (I'm resigned to sending my brand new phone back to the distruibtor for now, which will mean a 1 to 2 week turnover 😊

How about those flash-devices which you connect to your PC ? Do you know whether one of these could possibly revive a dead 3650 ?

The same happened last week with a 7650 for me.

Nothing worked. Still broken 😞 I took it to 2 different NSC's today - both just said "we can't fix it" 😞

They cannot fix it? If the phone is still under waranty they are obligated to give you a new phone...

After all, nokia is not producing anymore the phones it used to. Combined with their sucking policy and their useless service centers makes me wonder the future of nokia.. If n-gage will fail (and that is what it seams it's going to be), they will have huge problems... They just remind me of another company... ATARI)
