Getting MP3's to become ring tones.

10 replies · 3,661 views · Started 26 April 2003

I have a couple MP3's I would want as a ringtone, what is the best way to do that on the 3650?

What size should I encode my MP3's at as well?

Where do I put them in my phone (what directory) and how do I choose that said MP3 to become the tone?

Thanks!

Convert the MP3 you have to WAV using Streambox Ripper, that way you can get high quality, and then truncuate the part you don't need, (but make sure to convert the WAV to the exact specification (forget them, used something else) i turned out with a 1.6 MB ringtone 😃 (but worth it)

BTW you do with with Sound Recorder for windows 😃 (it's in the accessories incase you never opened it )

I use Cool edit pro since you can choose which part of the song you want to convert only... I'm not sure though if it's a freeware. Try searching for it at any search engine, including the streambox ripper app.

Bear with me guys, I'm a newbie to this phone.

If I get this right, I can use a .wav as a ringtone (even if it's BIG) providing I have the space.

Will the phone delay answering while it loads the .wav file ?

Do you put .wavs in the same place as a midi ?

cheers

Will the phone delay answering while it loads the .wav file ?

What do you exactly mean? Anyway, I have wav files as ringing tones and everything's ok... except that the tone is delayed in playing.

Do you put .wavs in the same place as a midi ?

I placed my wavs in the recorder, same with the midi...

Sorted,

A man of my age should not use words like "cool" whne I tested it. (or use "White Horses" from the 60's kids TV show as a ringtone either !!)

I note that there are two places on the card for tunes "simple" and "digital". I put the .wav in both places and the phone finds them both.

Any idea which one should be used or doesn't it matter.

UPDATE

OK so I am up to about 1.5 meg and just one copy - in "digital" works just fine.

I'm starting to think a bit more before getting carried away. A three minute ringtone is somewhat pointless if the phone diverts to voicemail after 30 seconds !!!!

I've reduced the length and increased the quality to leave me with 768k - that's mor elike it.

Yeah ofcourse cutting the length greatly helps with it's size, giving to note that the maximum time for a call before it hangs up automaticlly is something over 30 seconds.
