Infrared Remote Controle is out! I don't know if it's a final version already, but you can download it from www.my-symbian.com!

Thanks man! Definitely oneof the aps i have been waiting for. its still in beta stage though..

DESCRIPTION:
All multimedia devices around your home are now controllable using your mobile phone. The TV, HiFi set, CD, VCR and DVD player can be all controlled by your handy! You will not have to fight with your family members for a remote control anymore - you can ... Read more... Language: C++. Type: Beta version.

It's only a demo and there isn't a full version available I believe. I didn't find the app really useful yet, because you have to be very close to the device, before it works. Is the range really that short??

The range is fine with me, as I use most of my devices in a small room, but the skin is awful, and the app keeps locking...

If someone did some skin for them (even I am planning to give it a go if I have time from work), it would be a killer app, as my friends crawl in envy after seeing it work :P

4M? Aha.. I couldn't even use it a meter away! But its really nice though, perhaps I would get it if I have some extra cash.

finally, was eagerly waiting for this...have to get it as soon as I'm back from holiday 😃

I designed a skin but am still waiting to hear from them if they intend to use it.

They issued a complete development kit, but I'm not too hot on XML and Java, and didn't really have the time to sit down and learn how to set up the test app, so I just designed the skin and sent them all the bmps...

There was a rather long list of buttons - I assumed this was for more comprehensive controls. If they use this one I intend to design others for more obscure bits of hardware like hi-fi's, projectors, surround sound amps etc...

On a Sony portable TV I managed around 2m. Need to try it on my Tosh TV and Video when I get home. Shame no Sky Digital or Sky + support though.

in india i have a local brand called ONIDA, which used to be in collaberation with JVC but this new one is not, so it does not work on my TV.

If you remember in other universal remotes you could search your code by pressing SET & then CHANNEL + & power if your tv goes off thenh thats your code otherwise you press CHANNEL + to go to the next code & then press power....you can keep doing that till your TV goes off...

IS THERE SOME WAY OF DOING THAT WITH THIS SOFTWARE???

I'll try it with my pioneer home theatre tonight..that should work.
for this IRremote app... do you have to set the P800 irda to "ON" before using the app?
No

Anyway, a shame too, that there is Philips Sat in the program. Personally I would love a program which could learn other remote controls (like I had on my Pocket PC)

I found out that the range was not that bad, you just have to be straight in front of the device (not in a corner). That way I get about 5 metres...

😉 If you try using the IR REMOTE with the infrared ON, u'll get an error message... better not... hehehe...
worked fine with the sony tv but not with the panasonic

No Problem....buy a Sony 😉

I can't seem to get anything to work with it. I've tried a mitsubishi TV, a sanyo VCR, a samsung DVD player, a panasonic amp, and a aiwa cd player... none of them work! Even standing less than 1m away and pointing straight at the ir receiver!

think it needs some development..

You have to turn the IR off... If it is on, the app locks...

BTW, tried it 2 phillips and 2 sony (one is 10 years old) TV and they all work. The old TV needs the SonyALT2 setup though...

Well it worked sporadically with one of my TVs, but not with the VCR or a couple of other (different brand) TVs 😞 Plus it doesn't have support for my digital TV adapter.

Does anyone know if they're planning a "learning" version that allows you to teach it from your existing remotes? Preferably one that does macros too... 😃

I think probably the main problem here is never going to be the application, it's the differences (if I recall correctly) between the IrDA specifications (which is what the phone is equipped for) and Consumer IR (i.e. remote controls).

I've had it working with my Toshiba TV in the lounge (probably 2.5-3m), but you have to be pointing it exactly at the TV - which makes it tricky to see the screen some of the time. That's probably the design of the IR port, if you notice how deeply the LED's are recessed?

The range is a problem with the IrDA tuned devices - they work, if I recall, on a slightly different frequency than consumer IR.

That's the reason that the iPaq 39xx series that comes with the Nevo home control application (which is pretty cool, as it goes) has a different IR module than it's predecessor the 38xx series - and why you can't run Nevo on a 38xx series iPaq.

Still, learning would be nice in this app 😊

Mind you, my (damned expensive at the time) Marantz RC2000 MkII has been consigned to the floor in favour of the Sky+ remote and the DVD remote seperately.. They do pretty much everything I need, bar the TV menus (and I don't often need those, fortunately).

Works on Sony TV and DVD at about a meter some times two.

I had an app like this on my Newton, the only real use for an app like this is if it is scriptable.

i.e. to write a script to say turn your t.v. on in your bedroom in the morning to the channel and volume you like then when you are in the shower you come back and it has turned your t.v. off or even turned your hifi on with some music.

TIP: goto your local electronics shop and turn all the TV's in the window off , on, volume up, you decide 😃
