SX1 will not get MIDP 2.0 from launch, but it will come as a software upgrade 😊

The source is Siemens..

If this were true, then it would hardly be a top secret new feature that Siemens didn't want anyone else to know about, would it?

So, they would be only to keen to let prospective SX1 purchasers know this, so they would be able to see how upgradable it was. However, there is no mention of this from any offical siemens source (url please?), so I think we can take this as hype and more incorrect info from your siemens source 😊

moamoa: it's not supposed to be a secret. Siemens told us this at the AllAboutSymbian pub-meeting here in London in late April.

"You were told in the pub?" 😃 Get real, if siemens were seriously going to do this there would be some mention of it somewhere from an offical siemens source (rather than pub talk), after all MIDP 2.0 is not a trival improvment, and it' would be very much in siemens interest to let purchasing public know this.

Seems like you don't _want_ to belive it :-?

SX1 Product Manager in Germany says the same as well, do we really need any better source than that? 😉

I agree that moamoa is a little bit too sceptical, btw, even it the SX1 doesn't have midp 2.0 it has stereo output(right?),which scores a lot of points in my book.

-Edit-

Once again,i think that the 6600 sales charts will go a lot higher then the SX1 ones because the before mentioned reasons.

What i like in Siemens SX1 more than Nokia 6600:

1. radical keypad design
2. Built-in MP3 player and FM radio option
3. Easy access to camera and voice functions via side buttons
4. Handset can be used in vertical or horizontal orientations
5. Voice note application (accessible by side button)

i would go for the Siemens SX1 rather than the nokia, as i am a nokia user for years, i am giving siemens this chance 😊

1.I agree,the 6600 is not radical enough 😊
2.The 6600 will have a mp3,i don't know how good it will be because of mono output but it will still have an mp3 player.
3.It will have easy access to camera and voice functions also, which is standard feature in Series 60.
4.I wonder how.
5.Has that too.

The more I see the less I like it. Has anyone tried that weirds keypad??
I don't think is usefull, you can't type a sms with only one hand and that's what I do always so....

I've tried it a couple of times and was able to text SMS with just one hand. Not that my fingers are that big either... 😊

Halfway through July and still no word that I can find on the website about when it will be realeased. You would think they'll release it very soon in order to get as many sales before the 6600 hits the shelves.

I can hardly wait, but I suspect many people will wait for the 6600 release so they can compare the two before purchasing.

Carphone warehouse has changed its expected availibility from July to September.

@Molna

so after reading the FAQs

how bout the things u said which is the MIDP 2.0 and the SD card support

as u said for the MIDP 2.0 it will be as a s/w upgrade and for the SD card it will not officialy compatible ?!?!!

is this still valid ?!??!

Did you expect to read about SD-support in the FAQ as is wasn't official?
No, of course not 😊

MIDP 2.0 will come as an upgrade, that's still what Siemens says 8)

i live in germany and i got the magazin that tested the SX1,
they say that SD card has been tryed on the SX1 and it work perfectly, but siemens doesnt support it (so they said it is been a surprise that SD works).
i will post the pictures about this subject soon .

by the way SX1 has no camera ZOOM (in the test).
(by the way i have seen couple of magazines and couple of websites talking about the SX1 (no more talking) couple of weeks Max.1month and the SX1 will be out in germany.

send me the message, that the SX1 is at the beginning of August in our stores. I think we should believe that it is possible in late September.

The SX1 has passed FCC type approval very recently. This indicates a launch quite soon : ie. in 1 to 2 months. For example the Nokia 3650 passed FCC Dec26th 2002 and was immediately officially on sale in Hong Kong in limited quantities.

Of course software bugs or mass-production problems could delay the SX1 launch further..

regards.

tsk tsk nope, it cannnot be upgraded to MIDP 2.0

molna, check your facts. dont go bragging about SX1 and give too much praise on it, you look like a fool

I agree... for someone who is meant to be "in the know" they do spout a lot of stuff about the SX1 that turns out to be FUD 😃

Also, back on thread, with september looming... any news of a proper release date yet?

On the contrary, a guest login who appears and says "no it can't do blah blah" with nothing whatsoever to back themselves up, looks like the bigger fool.

Honestly you won't know whether it can use SD cards until it is released. As molna says, if it is not officially supported, would you expect it to be in the faq?
Same goes for the Midp 2.0 upgrade. Just because it isn't mentioned in the FAQ for the version of the phone to be released, doesn't mean it couldn't be in the future. After all it is only software...

I'm not going to argue yay or nay for either issues. It's quite clearly stupid to do so until I can hold the phone in my hand and test it for myself.

Yes, basically it's a software issue, but since SX1 uses Series60 platform, it's also a platform issue. SX1 uses Series60 1.2 and it supports MIDP 1.0. MIDP 2.0 support comes with Series60 2.0, so it would mean that the whole platform should be changed and I highly doubt that they'll do that.

Not to mention when some info is incorrect, he blames Siemens all the time, then again, even if he got information thats not confirmed, he will go bragging on every forum about that features.

Oh BTW, visit his site, he is ridicolous. He forbids people for talking about Nokia and SE. Although thats a Siemens site, of course, you can stop people from making comparison. After all, they are all cellphones. Die hard p.ig
He forbids people for talking about Nokia and SE. Although thats a Siemens site, of course, you can stop people from making comparison.
Check again and you will see that we allow users to compare with phones from other brands. Since it's such a popular forum we need to have rules. And as you said, it's a Siemens-forum, so 99% of the visitors expect to se Siemens being discussed, not other brands 😊

moamoa: yes, there are news about a proper release date, but this time I will keep my mouth shut 😉

Molna, You do ban people who disagree with you. You banned me, and you are the only person to ban me from any forum anywhere! All because I would not agree with you on serveral points about the SX1. including it not implementing MIDP2.0, which you have now admitted in another thread will not happen. And it not being the first to implement the Java Media API, which you have also been corrected on here in the AAS forums. Your forum is very much a pro siemens only, brown nosing forum, which does not like a real debate about anything. It is just a mouth peice for Siemens FUD.

Oh Dear!!! Another delay then. Can't say I'm suprised.
