Need help with I/R file transfer

6 replies · 1,813 views · Started 19 May 2003

Hey guys, I've been trying to configure my I/R port on my old laptop with Win95 to transfer files to my 3650. For some reason, every link I try to download for Microsofts Infrared Transfer Utility (for drag and drop to the I/R) can't be found. Does anyone know of any other software that is compatible so I can actually use my I/R port? It recognizes the phone, but I cant transfer files. Even using send/to/... Thanks for the help!

i am not sure, but it is possimble that your infra port is not compaitble (anymore) with nowadays IR devices like your phone.

Check your baudrates of the IR port on your laptop, set it to automatic or just the highest value! (if those settings are available!)

Thanks, I just did a search and it looks like the I/R is just going to be a hassle and others have had major problems too. If I buy a bluetooth dongle, do I still have to have Nokia PC suite? Or can I simply transfer files with drag and drop to my phone? Thanks!

i can drag and drop. In explorer there is below my 'entire bleutooth neighborhood' , there is icon called 'OBEX File transfer' when i drag and drop a file tot that directory it copies it to the phone!. or i use right mouse button click on the file and then do 'sent to' and there is also a shortcut to my phone.

dunno if this software is provided by all bluetooth dongles, i have the conceptronic one.. But first you need to establish a serial connection before transferring stuff.

the negative thing is that every file is coming on the phones memory, and not on the MMC. Thats why i use pc suite, so i can move large files to the MMC instead of the phones ram!

i dont see why you shouldn't use pc suite...

(ow, it doesn't work on your laptop~!~oops)

Thanks for the help. I can use Phone suite on my T-Bird desktop, I was just hoping I could use Infrared in a pinch on my dinosaur laptop. I am just not looking forward to downloading 30mb's through my dialup now that my broadband is gone. Thanks again, any other info would be great.

Win 95 has some serious issues with IR.

Funny thing is I got my BT dongle (nameless Y-210) to work with PC Suite (sort of) in Win98 SE but can't get it working in XP on a much better machine. I will try again tonight but won't have much time (anniversary with woman). Will post updates but seems to have problems installing a serial driver wtih XTND connect blue manager on XP... using V2.1

Any ideas?

I had more problems installing bluetooth on win 98 rather then win XP. As for the IR, if it's hardware installed correctly, when you put your phone with activated IR near it windows automatically find phone and you can send files directly.
Bloutooth is much more harder to configure than IR, but it's faster. IR is a way to slow for installing applications, and forget mp3 sending to phone. At least I don't have time for it.
