Devils Advocate Cases - in other wordsa where the issue of DRM becomes very... grey, shall we say.
(1) Screen capture applications on a DRM Wallpaper.
An issue I see here is say screenshots of an app like Active Desk, or shots taken in reviews where the wallpaper is visible, under DRM would you be breaking the law? As has been said you wouldn't essentially know if stuff you have is DRM protected until you tried to pass it on, so how would you be to know?
(2) I pay 35 for a Java Midlet. My phone is replaced by insurance - I've backed up using the PC Suite. On restoring, I can't see where the beta of "Mobile Repton" has gone (true story)...
Discuss?
True story that's happened a number of times, the reason I avoid paying for software is because when I come to upgrade my device I'd have to convince the companies that my device has been upgraded so I need an IMEI number for the apps again etc. Something that no doubt has been tried before by people attempting to get apps for free and the companies will be wary of handing out codes.
who runs this site? and why dont you like cracked firmware and WaReZ, etc?
I am the founder of this site and run it with the help ot lost of people (some of whom have posted to this thread). We dont have any official connections to any manufacturer or company. I started the site because I was interested in Symbian type stuff, and we all work of a volantry basis in our part time.
As for why we dont like warez etc this has been discussed many times. In short it is illegal. You can not puck and choose which laws you obey. If it was your worked being ripped off you wouldn't like it. Whatever way you look at illegal software, breaking DRM etc etc. it is stealing. Persoanlly I think this is wrong and this is why illegal software etc is not tolerated to one iota on this site.
Ewan,on Nokia 7650 PC suite there is a .ini or .txt file you have to edit in order to backup java apps(I think)
ah but it still seems odd, ive been to other sites and they love DRM even more.. they actually defend drm lol..
just because i dont like DRM they banned me off another site
[Removed] Admin note: please do not ask for forums or links where you can get around DRM restructions.
You can discuss the DRM topic freely here, but Warez requests will get you nowhere, you just might get a warning or even be banned.
look all i want is to get past it because i dont like the restriction. its not like im completely in to making pirate ringtones. i just want to forward em to my mates, and i want to make sure i can do whatever i like with em before i pay 500 quid for a phone..
i dont have alot of money, and i dont want to spend a sh*tload to find out that my phone works for some corporation trying to protect stuff.
ppl just dont get it. i HATE the restriction. The phone is no longer yours, its this corporation that tries to shove this "content" down ure throat, and gets you to pay money for it. then its not actually yours so u cant copy it.
i prolly wont sit down for days making pirate java apps but its just a f*cking pain in the hole if i cant forward one to my mates.
nothing against copyright laws i see the place would go mad without em.. it might be good for a week or 2 but then the whole thing will just flop.
96% the problem is that my own phone is trying to prevent me from doing something in favour of a corporation/"content" guy. ITS MY FONE FOR GODS SAKE it should let me do what i want
4% if i did bypass it, i prolly would send somthing to a m8 the odd time.
the theory behind this gay DRM crap is not too bad. but it just dont work. and again its your own piece of equipment favouring the "content" providers
Just to asuage your fears, the 3650 is neither 500 nor does it have this implementation of DRM as of yet.
less than 500 quid, unlocked, no contract, pay as u go?
how much m8?
In my country, its 400-450 euros.BTW: here you have the most expensive phones and mobile operator services in the world.
You can get it 250 -300 sim free, look in the shops. Only phones at the 500 mark are the P800 and 9210
9210 is a grand here.. LoL
i read on forum nokia that 3650 has Forward lock so u cant forward stuff it shouldnt be that hard to get past and i think thats all it has...
I think it is in plain English and clear enough: Admin Note! There is no forward lock in the 3650,there is a "sending ringtones via SMS"(like on many other phones) restriction and that is not forward lock.
i know what it is. just who put it there? lol 😃
