Advanced English Dictionary WOW!!

However, I notice that when you are searching for a word, it lists them in English spelling

I just tried this with an obvious one, Colour (or US Color) and if you just type "colo", color is listed. Colour is also listed (obviously further down) so I'm not sure your observation is entirely accurate. I too wish they would identify which is which but having the ability to search both spellings is of benefit to me but your comment give me a lack of confidfence in the product. Can you give me some examples of which words showed US spellings only after selection of the English spelling so we can try and figure out why this is only applicable on certain words?

Thanks

I stand corrected. The words I had checked were all -ise (-ize) words. In the examples I had chosen the -ize variation was off the bottom of the screen and therefore could not be seen. Had I actually engaged my brain this morning, I would have realised (-ized) this at the time.

Bassey,

Thanks for the clarification. I'm just relieved it's not a disappointing flaw in the app.

Advanced English Dictionary is the greatest application for P800. Its database is huge and the interface is carefully crafted. I look forward other products from this company.

Is it as good??? or perhaps... better???

It is definitely a fantastic App. Indeed, I used it only a few moments ago when my boss asked my to look up "Ironing" in a dictionary!

I know Cobuild. Definitely good. But Advanced English Dictionary is more professional and bigger. And cheaper. The word surfing, links and the rich content make it a must have app. It's not just for learners, it can also be used by native speakers.

😃 JulesG... u have been in the bar for too long i guess... hehehe...
8) Bill... thanks for the info...

In my opinion, this has to be the best application ever for the P800, it is extremely fast, great options, detailed explanations and worth every penny that they are charging for it. If you haven't got it yet, I would suggest buying it instantly you won't regret it. Though I consider English as my first language, it is often that one needs to look up a word and this dictionary is awesome in that respect. Am more than pleased with it. 😊

One of the most important aps ever made for the P800!!! 😊

One thing lacking still: an exit option 😞 It takes a lot of mem you know so you cant just leave itopen in the background..

I've avoided this app due to it's size, but I've done a little "spring-cleaning" to free some space.. All I can say is WOW, Love it! This is an amazing app, very useful! 😊

I should have added this one to my "Killer apps for the P800" in YS..

Awsome stuff!
I have been browsing through the different kinds of amino-acids, vitamins, blood types etc. It's really much more than a dictionary. In my opition it's far the best and most useful application for p800.

as for the size the app uses, Tracker reports it as 8k - can't be bad! looks like it doesn't load the whole DB at once and cleans itself up quite well!

I've noticed that too, but it seems to be a bug in Tracker. Tracker seems to be displaying all the applications written in Personal Java as 8K. But if you compare the available RAM before and after opening the AED, you'll find the difference to be more than 3MB.

Yeah, I was wondering about the same thing, so I crosschecked with another Personal Java application, both showing 8K in Tracker, but of course the actual use is much higher.

I think I'll contact Symbianware about it..

Very very cool app, worth every euros! I have been informed about Advanced English Dictionary at my-symbian.com and purchased it at their shop. Why don't AllAboutSymbian mention AED?

Really cool English Dictionary (or encyclopedia?) I think the content is enough for the encyclopedia title. What I really like is the biographical and geographical information in this dictionary. And the links, of course, they are cool! I highly recommend it to everyone.

Uhh, awesome! So much knowledge in just 6.3MB! Worth the price! Acutally, it's cheaper than a good paper dictionary and contains a lot more information.

I hope they release a version of it with icons or images and such.

The wealth of knowledge is unbelievable!

Great idea for a demo unit too!

I think images would increase the size of the app very much. In my opinion the current size is ideal, the wealth of knowledge is unbeatable and the app looks very very nice!

Sorry for asking the obvious but is this JUST a dictionary or can it be used for predictive text in Sms etc. ?

Its a dictionary u cant use it as a T9 its a shame though u cant copy and past text out of it

😉

You can copy text out of it. The small copy icon does that.
And it's not a t9 database, this is an English dictionary and apparently the best one.

Very nice stuff! I use it daily and unbelievably useful! Recommended.
