I wholeheartedly agree with Frenchie746's post, however. I won't get into my lecture on the effects of piracy (trust me, it can go on for a few pages 😉) but guys, if you want to keep seeing great software for Symbian OS and more specifically, Series 60, then please, buy the software, don't pirate it.

I know first hand how piracy affects developers, because I, myself am a developer. Okay, it may not be classed as warez as such, but the Icon Changer Pack I was working on was posted onto warez boards and yahoo groups within hours of me releasing it to the beta testers, despite my pleas not to upload it until I released it to the public. I'll admit it - after seeing that, it did make me wonder whether continuing the project was a good idea or if I should scrap it (as I thought, if the beta will be leaked so quickly, who's stopping them pirating the full version?). Luckily though, the AAS members here persuaded me to keep at it, and so a release of both Icon Changer and Project TBA should occur in the not-too-distant future 😉. But some developers have scrapped projects because of warez (such as SymbianWare's vow never to release Lemmings, as their previous game was pirated...😞)

So, please guys. Give a resounding no to warez and piracy.

Seriously though, how many ppl are going to pay for something if they can get it for nothing? U gotta be realistic. We are all guilty of it. Who doesn't have copied music, games or videos somewhere in their collection? Not too many!

This problem is also more widespread in certain areas of the world. Russia for one. Here you can buy a PC game (any game just released) for 3-4 dollars US. They are pirated and the patches don't work on them but hey it's cheap so most people will go for those. Since there are no real enformcements on copyright here in Russia it is the way.

Also progs for phones are so tiny they can easily be emailed, etc.

Also copy protection is much more difficult since the progs for phones have to be portable by definition.

i would say that we're talking more of individual values here. if only that person knows how to respect other's work and properties, then we might not be discussing about this anymore. it's just sad that it is very seldom to find such kind.

I'm from South Africa and we have our share of Warez and serial number hacks, etc etc in the computer world. I don't sell software, I only code for an Ultima Onlne Shard I run here. I really feel sorry for the startup-programmer trying to make a living because there are people out there with attitudes like yours. What you're doing, in effect, is endorsing Crime and saying it's ok to steal.

What a crappy moral code. But it's yours. Thing is, it doesn't quite cut-it with the rest of Human Society at large.

Warez and codes etc should be BANNED outright from these forums. Yes, if low-life's want Warez and stuff, go to a Warez site. I for one do not condone crime no matter how "harmless" it may at first seem.

Yahoo Groups won't be the place either soon. I have reported and Yahoo have closed down about 8 Groups I have reported and another one will be reported tonight.

my whole point was stop asking for warez, and activation codes in here. It gets annoying when i come in and the first 3 posts are ppl asking for programs or keygens ect...

Welcome to the Real World ? Duh ! Excuse me for living. I've only been here 42 years so far and enjoyed most of it fully. I'm in the Information Technology Industry and have been enjoying Research and Development on new hardware and software for Mainframes/minis/Pc's and new devices for many years now.

You're using a bull*t statistic to rationalise warez. 70% ? Crap man, then the country you're in has zero control over bootleg products. Here in South Africa we have an organisation to protects intellectual property, especially that which is program code. I fully support them and what they do. Warez is THEFT, plain and simple, no matter how you try to "sugar" it by making the absurd statement that "70% of people use Warez". Even if that were true, does that make it "ok" ? You say you yourself do not have anything to do with "that shit". So why then try and condone it ? I KNOW it's there. I KNOW it's real and I KNOW it won't go away, but I'll be fuskked if I'm going to sit on my backside and do nothing about it.

STOP condoning Warez and Serial keys for those hacks etc. There is no way to rationalise Warez and hacks and serial keys here.

The software (thus far) that I have seen for my phone and for other Symbian devices is DIRT CHEAP and I come from a country where the money is not good compared to the $, euro, pound and other overseas currencies.

I feel VERY sorry for musicians trying to make good in the world today for precisely the same reasons. Their music gets ripped in an instant.

Call me insane, but I prefer originals and will only ever buy anything unless I am allowed to (a) Try it out first, and (b) If I really like it, I buy it. In the computer world (a) Is very often an option because the people who make the goods know this is what consumers look for. If I can't try it, there's very little chance I will buy it.

I have yet to see a good computer game that has not been preceded by a good working demo of itself, some even with a full working product but limited number of levels etc.

Why Warez?

Warez are for those people who think it's "cool" to rip stuff. Go Figure. Imagine going thru "real llife" in the "real world" with such a shitty attitude.

Warez and everything associated with that will never end, but by HELL, I'm making it tough for people in MY country to get away with illegal copies of anything to do with computer software. It's the Indisutry I excel in, I don't know the music industry. Maybe YOU should do something about the state of it. Some bands and musicians have and they are still selling huge amounts of records.

Putting aside your vulgar language if you read Yahoo T&C's they were in violation. I did not Shut Them Down, as I said I merely reported them. If Yahoo had wanted to remove the offending software & members in breach that would have been OK with me, rather than deleting the whole groups.

maybe if so many of the java games weren''t so shite and didn't cost 4:50 then maybe warez be so popular. Also, for people without credit cards (like kids), its hard to get decent symbian software without warez. If they made it possible to buy this software via text then maybe warez wouldn't be so big. I don't condone warez, but i understand why people do it, aside frmo the obvious reasons

What I don't understand is someone trying to impose their "moral standards" on eveyone else (not going to mention names). If you believe that wares are wrong then be it so and don't use it but wake up and smell the coffee, you preaching is not going to convince anyone that using wares is wrong if they are already using them.
