dear all,
:-? been using P800, for 8mths, done upgrade till R2D, recently encountered problem, after dialing numbers, while waiting for other party to pick up,dont hear any ringing....got connected.....as display on screen...but hears no sound...but other party hears you....a long mute after you got connected and suddenly.....they can hear you....after your hear them saying hellooooo.....for a couple of times.....
anyone experienced this misery of mine??...used other phones no problem as such encountered.... 8)
Nope, seems like you have to take it back 😞
Yes, I have this same problem but only occasionally. I'm on Orange in the UK and have had it with a couple of phones (all Sony Ericsson though). I dial it says "connecting", but no ringing in the handset... then suddenly it's like "hello" and I'm talking. The other party can always here me though.
I solve it by switching off and leaving it off for 1 minute and then by turning on. Problem solved. It seems I get it when the phone has been on for weeks on end... which it usually is. I'm on R1D though so I doubt it's firmware.
I have encountered the same problem yesterday... and found solutions within seconds... though it's drastic
But let's start frm begining:
been running on R2F for over a month, and last friday had some problems while backin/restorin data from PC...
so I did a format C 😞
it turned that after that I had some files missin so includin CDA file and it stopped synchin...
so I ran to SE Service center and got another R2F...
And now the story concernin you begins
yesterday I started to install apps... - didn't do the restore but decided to "clean" things, get rid of some apps like Photo touch - since I cant get it to install on MSD etc...
So I did and to my suprise I encountered the same problem as you, no connection tones, and people yellin at me that I do not speak....
So I did Master reset. got rid of all apps and suddenly everythin is normal again!!
Check if you recently installed any new apps?? esp. on C drive?? maybe they are causin the problem ...
anyway I will be installin things today and after each install will be checkin if this lousy problem reappears. (hopefully not)
If somethin occurs I'll keep you posted
hello,
my experience is different. I am using my 3rd P800 now and the problem still remain. The problem is when I am talking on the phone, apparently all calls, the person on the otherside will not hear me properly occasionally. They told me as if I talk from a distance from the phone and they can't hear me. Wonder this happen to you guys?
are you sure this just isn't because your signal is poor?
happens to me too .. sometimes they cant hear me for a few seconds then its ok .. dont know if its a hardware or software problem ..
I've been getting it a hell of a lot, maybe once every 3 days. I know now if they say "Hello? HELLO? HELLO!!?" I just cut the call and redial again, highly annoying, yes. So if anyone knows the reason, please tell!
I'm still on R1D by the way.
nickgoodliff: this problem happen even with full signal.
simply258 & Jonomac: I finally found someone who can share my pain! 😃
Jonomac: I don't think it is the software problem as I used 3 different firmwares already. The problem is still there, "HELLO? HELLO? HELLO?" suddenly on the otherside during the conversation. Haha! Currently using R2D
Simply258: Hardware problem? May be. I went to Vodafone and asked the manager there. He said he didn't get any complain for this problem. However, 3 of the phones (the phone is exchange due to problem, not firmware upgrade) i have used have this problem and also I have asked this problem b4 on the forum, and no one replied me.

I hope this doesn't sound too stupid, but are you covering up the mic when you hold it? I was doing this (I'm left handed, this may have something to do with it) for the first couple of days I had the phone with the same symptoms you describe.

hmm i just noticed where the mic is .. u might be right .. i tried holding the phone as i usually would (right hand) and i could cover it with my pinky :-?
i am righthanded person but i hold my phone using left hand. Where is the mic by the way? Maybe u are right. But once my friend scold me not to move around when i am talking and i told him i am holding still at the same position without moving and even i put the end of the phone abit further from the face, which i think I wont cover the mic, it still happen. =( anyway, i hope u are right with that! =)
Hardware and software aside, could it be that you guys are suffering from moments of weak transmission where the audio is breaking up? Like deadspots in buildings? Until of course, your P800 negotiates for a stronger signal? Some food for thought from my two cents of broadband.
Oh my lordy!!! 😮
Is that the mic on the bottom left of the phone, the little hole just to the left of the headphone picture? If it is, then this could indeed be the reason why no one can hear me!!!! I can see myself covering that up loads of times when I talk! 😮ops:
STOP PRESS..... just tried out that theory and you're right!!!! Lotus49 thank you very much for demonstrating my stupidity!!!! 😉
i never faced tht problem but to be honest........... i hadnt noticed tht position of the mike either....
One wonders why SonyEricsson has positioned the mic hole where we are likely to have our pinky supporting the grip of the phone against gravity. How badly it cuts off the audio to the other party can be tested by calling ourselves and leaving a message in our voicemail, or recording a Voice Memo.
oh my goodness! that's the mic! I have been looking around for long time. Maybe the theory is right! Havent try it yet. I will notice that next time when I talk! =)
When I got my first P800 I had it replaced because of that problem. The only one that really was stupid, were SE engineers not noticing what they were doing.
With the first bit about not hearing any ringing, i get that to sometimes, im on orange uk too. The covering the mic with your hand ive done that too! 😃
😃 hey you guys...
just noticed after weeks of observations...the problem intermittently occurs...and have to do with BT headset...(after my BT headset went dead by itself...batt flat i guess...without proper warning....SE should look into this matter...) then the problems occurs.....hmm...just sharing my misery again with you guys..... 😃
I'm left handed. That solves the problem of covering the mic.
