I think their no-cam-in-workplace rule is quite practical, for their kind of business.
they have been banned in many places now i hear. public pools, schools. i guess we just wait to see a big story in the news where one has been abused. just thought it a bit funny, as im sure if they arnt yet, samsung will be making "photofones".
like McDonalds only hiring Vegitarians as a policy 😃
Its quite okay, this rule, the workers can still bring their phones in with a plastic sticker sticking on the lens.

Yeah that's actually quite funny/stupid. Samsung is kind of killing their own products. They've already released the V200 and there are more on the way... 😃
Other companies will follow. Its not a big deal, they are not killing their phones, workers can use plastic stickers. And its a very reasonable rule.
Not that I'm advocating this at all...
But...
if you got pulled for driving whilst using a P800, I wonder if arguing that you were only taking a picture (not using the phone bit) would stand up in court...?
😃
Obviously you could still get done for careless/reckless driving, but if the officer first stops you for using a mobile, then he he can't change his mind later!

I hear they (the police) can if they want to be mean get the call records from your provider, and prove you were talking at the time. not that you were serious anyway 😉

What are you talking about? Jealous of who? :-?
Personally, put yourselves in the shoes of the Chief R&D Manager. With the ability to send off quick photos inconspicously, would you let people in with camera phones inside your secret R&D facility? Would'nt all the time, not to mention money, spent on the projects be worthless if competitors just steal your intellectual properties without you knowning about it and worse, using it against you in the marketplace?
I suppose the reason why this is "news" material is because of the irony here: a camera phone manufacturer bans their own products in their own plants. Well, given the circumstances it is a perfectly reasonable decision. I dont understand what's so "funny" about it. If you worked in this industry, you'd understand.
About the putting stickers on the lens of the camera: its the next best thing to confiscating the phones outright (which would violate many laws). Also temporarily holding the phones wouldn't be an option as it will be a hassle determining the owner of the phones(as you know there are thousands of employees, it would take quite a while to figure that out). BTW, these are not just ordinary stickers that your thinking of. They have indicators that reveal whether the sticker was tampered with.

sorry, thought the smiley :black: indicated that it was not to be taken seriously, though the topic is "on topic" here.
the fun is purely the irony of it.
you are of course right, i will be taking particular note of where people are pointing their phones when they are in our office, as there is always "stuff" lying around. a small company like ours would look stupid asking visitors to put a bit of tape over their lens.
Well maybe that's why SE gave us such a shite camera in the P800. 😃
I can't use my phone at work due to the camera, and I wouldn't mind a p799 😉 with out a camera, a smaller case and some extra battery time.

although the indoor shots might look bollocks, but look here at the night mode snap compared to the 7650

Actually, the ban on camera phones in certain environments does make sense. I wouldn't like that anywhere i go though. but it makes sense.
Personallly I think its silly you can a poor quality digital cameras for next to nothing these days and they dont stop you taking cameras to some of these same places... its daft.
