New application: "Stacker" by SymbianWare

This is a great little tool! 😃

I managed to free up 2166KB by compressing all my apps, and an additional 2300KB just by compressing the WAD files in EDoom. This is awesome, going to look for more files to compress now.. 😃

From the author:

Stacker is the best, fully automatized and reliable compression system for your device. Stacker software doubles the size of your entire drives and works invisible behind the scene. When you start an application it becomes decompressed in background automatically and is compressed again when you close it.

Stacker is the best way to increase disks space on your device, it guarantees to give you as much disk space as possible without even thinking about it, moreover Stacker includes fully featured file manager with compressing/decompressing files or folders functions.

You can download the trial here.

Have you noticed any substantial effects on the performance of P800? I mean speed to upload the file into memory and then exit the file.

Anyway thanks for the info and I am going to try 😃

I think this is only good for certain programs or files.. But its a fair program nevertheless.

is their any news on the programme space doubler for the p800? i slways preferred that on the 7650 compared to stacker

I'm not sure I understand exactly what you mean, but if you mean if there's a decrease in speed when loading and exiting an application that's been compressed with Stacker - then yes of course, there is.

The best thing to do IMO is to compress only the files/applications you don't use very often.

Stacker has to decompress and compress the application every time you open/close it, so this will obviously affect the loading time. Stacker has no effect on any of the other apps that isn't compressed. Stacker ONLY runs when it's needed. Personally I think this is an ingenious little tool and it's freed up a total of 4600KB's for me by compressing some files and apps I don't use that often.

When I had a 7650(long time ago) I had another compression program(don't remember the name right now), which was nothing compared to Stacker. With the program I had back then I had to MANUALLY decompress/compress each application, and I could also only access the compressed app within that compression program - it would be gone from the application menu...

downloaded it 2day and i am happy with it 😃 , things will take a bit longer to load but its worth it for all the spare mem u get

wasn't their only stacker and space doubler? space doubler was also automated, but with space doubler, you could assign a folder to be zipped up along with a program, like videos taken by hantro34, whenever you opened the programme hantro (video recorder) it would automatically unzip both the programme and the video folder,

Hmm, yes I think it might have been Stacker, I seem to recall the Stacker icon, but I'm really not sure, this was a long time ago, almost a year ago I think. And if it was Stacker, it was probably an early version. I do remember that it was really buggy though, and that it didn't go well together with my Active Desk software.. And like I said, nothing like Stacker for P800.

maybe he means the first versions made by symbianware .. it used to be manual .. before they made it auto and changed its name to stacker .. SmartCompress i think it was

Ah yes, that was it! Thank you for reminding me. 😊

Ahh,those were the days, both sDoubler and SmartCompress had problems in the early days. Now,i don't think they suffer from any bugs,i can't imagine using my 7650 without Stacker. There is a small delay when starting a compressed app but i'm pretty used to it.

Now its available for the p800 too,i can see a lot more great titles from SymbianWare in the future!!I'm missing only one thing,a p800 😊

i wish space doubler will be out really soon .... healthy competion (just like 7650 case) would always benefit us the users 😃

8) I havent really tried STACKER for P800 YET but definitely it'll be a great one!!! i have been using it since my 7650, 3650 and 9210 era... it's been really great for the 7650!!! not so sure why u guys prefer SPACEDOUBLER but i think STACKER can compress even more...

I have been checking the site, www.psiloc.com , daily for MONTHS! All they say about Space Doubler is that it is coming soon. I am beginning to tire of this inactivity. I will probably go with the stacker now. I also contaced www.ppctechs.com about memory increases/mods, but they said they were not planning on doing a P800 mod: I find this very sad and confusing. I would think, as it is the hottest new device out there, they would WANT to create/enable this mod.
