😃 Haven't seen another post on the subject but Pocketop now has a driver available for the P800 as well as a cool File Manager with great functionality (reminds me of the file manager on my Psion 5MX). I bought a used Pocketop Keyboard on eBay, loaded the driver and the file manager and it works fine. Those long E-mails just got a lot easier to write while traveling! You might visit the Pocketop website to see if the driver is now listed in the compatibility section...if not send an E-mail to their support department and the can provide by the driver and the file manager. By the way my P800 sits on the provided stand just fine in a vertical position and the mirror points right at the infrared port. This make typing very natural. The only thing I do to make it easier to type is turn on the backlight full time. Enjoy
Pocketop Keyboard driver for the P800!
I was unable to find anything on PockeTop's website.Could you post shots of the PocketTop in action,i guess posting the drivers would be legal too.
O.K. Where is the information/link?
Sorry for the delay I was away. Perhaps you should contact Pocketop Support for the drivers, I don't know if it's cricket posting their software. I have attahced an image of my P800 working with the Pocketop The P800 sits comfortably on the Pocketop stand in the horizontal position. You might need to play with the mirror a bit to get it to input directly into the P800's IR port. If this is a problem simply detach the stand and move it and the P800 a couple of inches away from the keyboard.
One question. What about using in it on the bus or on the train,do you find it doable?
Hi Pacrtg,
I couldn't find it on their website and their support people said it will be availabe in September. So, do you mind sharing the driver ?. I don't think, there is any problem in sharing the driver since it's always free. You can send it via email, not share publicly.
btw, what's your pocketop keyboard model ?
Appreciate your help.
As far as I know Pocketop only offers one product. The standard Keyboard comes with different attaching hardware for different PDA's. I have attached the file manager and driver provided by Pocketop and the instruction from them follow.

Please try out our 'alpha' version of the driver. Save the file to the

Thanks a lot pacrtg. It's very kind of you to share the files.
pacrtg,
Is your keyboard made by micro-Innovations?. I have read in the reviews that the microinnovations is the one distributing pocketop keyboard in the US. I saw one keyboard for $49 in CircuitCity (made by microinnovations and it said, design by Pocketop on the top of keyboard box ). I just want to make sure that I buy the right one. Thanks.
The Keyboard is sold and I believe manufactured by Pocketop. Take a look at, www.pocketop.net for details. I bought mine used on eBay because I'm cheap however the keyboard is listed on Pocketop's site at various times as US$79 or 89. Go figure.

By the way just changed the case on my P800 to mineral grey....looks much better to my eye. The change out is rather easy but you need a small Torx driver (#8 I believe) to remove the four screws. Looks better with the keyboard too! (IMHO) Bought the case at www.globalmob.com/cart/customer/home.php.
Pacrtg
Or try: www.globalmob.com
Thats all very well and good. But that Mineral Grey kit doesn't include the grey stylus'. Is there such thing? Does anywhere sell the grey stylus? I can imagine it looking a bit silly with this blue stylus strapped onto the side.............
my mistake, just found the 3 pack of stylus' for $9.95 on the website, just have to hunt for it......
Yes, the same outfit (see above link) has the grey stylus. They had to delay my shipment a few days till they rec'd a new shipment of grey units so they threw in a free box of grey stylus'. Nice guys. Again....looks great, a little more subdued.
Pacrtg
thanks for the heads up about this actually, my p800 is still scratched to buggery ever since I dropped it out of a 3rd storey window.................
replacment case here i come.....
Hi PACRTG,
when you start the pocketop driver, do you see that app in the process list ( either in SMan, etc) ?. When I start the driver app, i see the driver's gui only for couple of seconds and some output, something like "....port xxxx" etc. After that, it disappers and I don't see that app in the process list anymore. I don't see any errors also.
and also, how do you know when the keyboard is ON or OFF ?. There is no ON/OFF switch on the keyboard, but there is a redlight indicator. Is it supposed to be glowing when the keyboard is on ?
thanks in advance.
Ok. I got it working. Initially, I didn't put it in the systems/programs directory. Once I copied to that directory, it started working.
It's working great. but, how do you stop the driver ?
thanks.
I have attahced an image of my P800 working with the Pocketop The P800 sits comfortably on the Pocketop stand in the horizontal position.
That is VERTICAL, by the way.
Mark.
Actually I meant the stand (not the phone) is in the horizontal position when attached to the keyboard vs the vertical position when the stand is detached from the keyboard. (Does that make sense?)
If it's difficult to get the RF port lined up via the mirror thingy you may need to detach the stand and back it up a couple of inches from the keyboard. Regarding shutting down the driver (previous post) I do it with Handy Day which lists running applications. Hadn't thought about how to do it without Handy Day. Hmmmm. If I remember correctly from the manual the keyboard shuts down automatically after a period of time.
Enjoy!

Hi Pacrtg,
I found out that you can stop the driver using "Function" key and the "Backspace". It acutally says "Off" in blue ( which is the Function key color) on the backspace key.
Thanks for sharing the driver. It's really cool typing on this mini keyboards. Hopefully, Pocketop releases the updated driver soon. For now, this is good enough.
There is a rumour that PocketTop are working on a Bluetooth version of the keyboard and driver.

Hmmm, I updated my HandDay to version 4.0 and since then my keyboard has ceased to function. I think it has something to do with the infrared....it simply closes down when I start the driver. I have asked Pocketop about it but no answer yet. Hopefully they will post a proper driver on their website for us P800 users. More to come.

I received my keyboard today, seems to work well enough. All I need now is a word processor 😉
I use the filemanager function of Tracker to navigate to the driver to start it. Does anybody else notice that the quick switch icons (i.e messages, applications etc) dissapear? I can see the stdout window behind there showing each character arriving.
Is there a better way to start it that avoids this problem?
TIA

remove Handy Day and see if it works again ..
Anybody know what's going on with Symbian and PocketTop?
The PocketTop website
http://www.ultimatekeyboard.com/drivers.htm
Now states that the beta version drivers can only be obtained from Symbian.
I emailed Symbian and they said and I paraphrase ...
'We're sorry but there is currently no such driver, the reference on the PocketTop website is a mistake. Sorry for any inconvenience.'
...Ifor
Thanks for that Ghostdog.
I actually already have the driver I was just wondering what's goinh on here ...
cheers

Hi folks
I have just got my keyboard and driver 😃
But have been initially disappointed with the basic functionality. As the stylus is still needed to move between fields etc in contacts and the diary entries.
Does anyone know if we can program/access the Blue macro keys? I know this is a beta version but hoped that the keyboard would turn the P800 into more of a PDA (a la Series 5!).
As for the development it seems to have been dropped as my response from symbian shows after pushing them on their first reply of 'Unfortunately there are currently no commercially available drivers available from Symbian for the PocketTop keyboard.' 😞
I asked for the beta driver and got another dead end of:
'No unfortunately there are no beta versions available that can be distributed to the public. I cannot comment on what Symbian partners plan to have available in the future' 😡
Lastly - How do I see attachments in forum posts? I am logged on but can never see files and attachments? (I can't use active X on my work PC if this is used)?
Cheers
