P800: Moving files to different Memory Sticks

6 replies · 1,834 views · Started 28 July 2003

I have just bought myself a new memory stick for my P800 and want to copy over my version of Handy Day to the phone so I can still access it when I change sticks. Does anyone know how I can do that?

Thanks

Fergal

Can you not simply perform a backup of the old memory stick and restore it to the new one or is it just this one application that you are trying to move?

I got a 128Meg before I went on holiday, and I just put the 16Meg in my reader, copied the folders, and wrote them to the 128Meg. Job done.
But if you do have multiple sticks (Jammy 😉 ) then just installing to the C: is better.

I just did this over the weekend.

Basically just re-installing the application will work;
the interface asks you if you want to replace the old copy,
than later asks you which device you want to install to.
Just choose 'C' and the old copy is automatically removed from D:
helpfully, all your settings are saved on C: anyway, so
you don't lose them when you re-install.

However: because Handy Day tends to hang around in memory,
you will get errors with the above approach unless you shut it down first.
I also got an error about an mbm file on D:.
Rebooting the phone made this go away and Handy Day is now on my C drive.

Also moved Opera, handy Safe and Atomic with no damage.
