Hi folks, sorry to have to put this to you all, but I had a phone call from my ISP today telling me I've gone slightly over my bandwidth allowance. With the account I have I have unlimited disk space, but limited to 250Mb bandwidth a month, and last month it was just a tad over 4GB (yeah - I was shocked as well). They have decided that enough is enough and that they will have to charge me for the extra usage (not sure of the price yet). I've also been told that further indiscretions will also be charged unless I upgrade my account to somethig appropriate. I can get double the bandwidth (500Mb) if I pay 4 times what I'm paying now (yeah - doesn't make sense to me either), but this doesn'tcome anywhere near enough.
Now I'm not asking for anyone to pay this or donations or anything like that - all I'm asking for is that you click on my banners (especially the long one at the top). In the 11 months I've been running the site I've amassed a grand total of �70 due to advertising (�40 I've received - �30 still with the ad company).
This is still just a hobby site to me (well, it' more that just a hobby site)and I enjoy doing it and want to keep on doing it - even though it costs me and the costs are rising, but I don't have an unlimited amount of funds available to do so (the wife keeps pruning the money tree out the back before I can get to it). So PLEASE remember to keep clicking on the ads. And even better sign up for some of the stuff (some ads don't pay for click, only for registrations, and most of those there are no commitments - but check before signing up to anything).
Anyway, that's it except to say thanks to everyone for making www.n9210.co.uk a great success and hopefully you've enjoyed it as much as I have and I hope it sticks around for a while longer.

Woah. Thats a lot of bandwith - and is exactly why there aren't downloads on this site (as it we ran near to 8gb last month). Patrick a few suggestions.
1) Post this as a news item (you have my permission - not that you need it), it might get a bit more exposure.
2) Set up a PayPal account and ask for donations (worth a shot)
3) if you decide you have to move providers oneandone offer alrightish bandwith, and I'm sure others might have suggestions.
I'd offer to help out with hosting, but don't have the necessary disk space. Also its not mine to give away (someone called DeXTRa - BTW big thanks to him). Presuambly your up to several 100 MB's by now?
Anyway let me / us know if we can do anything else.
I've got the same problem .. got about 80 gb diskspace at my disposal but limited bandwidth :s

Would it not be possible to become a reseller for all the companies that offer software for ER6? That way if anyone comes through the site and decides to buy something (i know i've been tempted) then you could make some commision.
This was the first site i came across when looking for decent info / downloads for my Nokia communicator and the downloads section is possibly my favourite area. Like i say i know i've been tempted to buy and that would be all thanks to this website.

You need to have a lot of sales (approx $1000) through your site before you see a dividende. I know Rafe's affiliate link to Handango still has some way to go before he sees anything.
It's certainly an Idea though, but it wouldn't be enough to pay for even the bandwidth on AAll About ER6, let alone n9210.co.uk

Ok here's another solution. Host parts of your sites at different hosts. Probably a lot cheaper than hosting it all at the one you're at (keep below the bandwidth limits by spreading it across hosts)
Still expensive i guess but hell it's gotta be cheaper than what your host expect you to pay!
Re: previous idea, surely any money is a good thing? Every penny helps.
Maybe you could sell ER6 based hardware and accesories?
There's always the other solution of cutting down on images, removing rollovers, optimising code and layout to cut down on the amount of code in pages, stuff like that.
I might be able to offer some hosting for part of the site in the future. I can keep you posted on that if you like.

The problem isn't the HTML it's the fact that he's letting people download bucket loads of movies and sounds. My webserver has a few gig left on it but unfortunately I'm still having trouble making my router route traffic to it :-?

A little suggestion... Offer is demand, and demand is offer !!! Why not making some downloads available for a short time (limited time availabilty...). This means that you could save some space by letting a new file available for a limited time period for download, than taking it out and replacing it with another file...
But as mentioned, lets click !!!

Just an idea, but are you hosting in the UK, and if you are, have you thought of hosting in the states? I live in SA and always thought that local hosting was better, but just recently I've given hosting in the states a try and it turned out to be MUCH cheaper and just as quick if not quicker.... as I say, just an idea

N9210 will be around for a while yet.
As long as I get some clicks on my banner ads, (the paypal donation scheme was a waste of time) then I'll keep www.n9210.co.uk up and running, even though in the year I've had the sight up and running the money from the adds pays about 1/10 of the costs of having the site (not including my time).
But, I didn't start the site to make money, I started it (and keep doing it) because I enjoy it, so I'll keep the site there as long as I can - hopefully for a few years yet (depending on the next Nokia Communicator).
