New full screen picture caller ID from SIMEDA

Hello everyone,

We have just released our PhotoID application. It is a full-screen picture caller ID app for Nokia Series 60 phones. I know Symbianware beat us by about 7 days, but you might want to take a look: http://www.simeda.com/photoid.html

Interesting features:

- internal list of images for the contacts, stored separately from the Images application - allows you keep track of the contacts that have images attached to them and change them in one place
- can also fetch images from the Contacts application (not thumbnails though, we decided that looked _ugly_)
- you can take a picture of the contact right from the application, you don't have to start Camera, take a picture then go into the application and assign the photo. Just select the contact and choose "Take picture from camera". You can also load pictures from existing files on your phone
- autostart on reboot
- auto-add incoming calls to the contact list

Here are some screenshots to whet your appetite 😊

The application costs EUR 4.95 and a 15-day trial is available for download here.

Great Job Razvan,i'm downloading it right now.Does it have a test mode,so that i don't have to ring myself to see whether it works or not?

I have a 3650 and it doesent run ! No contact appears when I serch it and not photo appears when somebody calls me.

Great work drazvan, at a very attractive price!! 😊

User posted image Errrrr, do you also give Cristina Rosca's photo and phone number along with the application? 😉 :P 😃 User posted image

Hello Roman,

Do you get the "unknown photo" image or do you just get your regular "incoming call" screen that the 3650 displays? Can you press and hold your Menu key and see if PhotoID is running?

Thanks,
Razvan

GhostDog, you'll have to start the application and call your phone from another line (landline or mobile). Let me know how it works 😊

Razvan

Petran, that's actually a photo of Anna Kournikova 😊 ... and I don't have her phone number 😊

Razvan, the app is great, fast, fun and i haven't found any bugs so far.Lars in the 3650 forum mentioned that if the phone is locked, the app doesn't get trough the lock,it works fine here,i'm impressed, great job.

Tried the PhotoID with 7650 v4.46 and 3650 v3.13 - no problem

hope you can reduce the size 😉 jk

Hello everyone,

Version 1.2 of PhotoID is now available for download at http://www.simeda.com/downloads/PhotoID-1.2.zip. It adds just one feature: a small icon near the number, just like in the default "incoming call" screen that Nokia has. It's a small cell phone icon for mobile calls, a small fixed phone icon for calls from landlines, etc. We've also fixed a nasty bug that only showed up for people with lots (300+) contacts in their contact lists (yes, if you must know, I have over 300 people in my contacts list 😊 ).

Let me know what you think.

Hello everyone,

Version 1.4 of our PhotoID is now out (http://www.simeda.com/downloads/PhotoID-1.4.zip).

New features:

- United States layout for incoming numbers ( (xxx) xxx-xxxx ) - selectable from the Setup menu
- proportional scaling of images (images smaller than the screen are centered, larger images are proportionally scaled until their largest dimension fits the screen)
- reduced RAM usage (we found and fixed a bug)
- "quick delete" option for the contacts by pressing the "c" (cancel) key

Enjoy 😊

Hi!
Thanks for a nice app. Very good.
But why doed the icon shows in running apps? I choose "Hide" in PhotoID but it still shows in "Running apps"

Edit
I think I found I bug. I choose "Startup when reboot", but it doesn't.
I use version 1.04

Yes, I know it still shows in the running apps... that's actually a feature, you can switch to the application at any time and add pictures for your contacts, etc. We don't want it not showing up, we want you to see it and be able to kill it if it mis-behaves 😉. We've had requests both ways: some people want it to be totally hidden, some like the fact that it's displayed in the list of running tasks... so we're gonna leave it like this until we "count the votes" 😊

Razvan

I will try it when phone is back. I have problems with the display. I hope I get it back tomorrow.
Thanks
What about skins. Is that a possibility?

Hello everyone,

A new version PhotoID has just been released (version 2.0.0 - download location http://www.simeda.com/downloads/PhotoID-2.0.0.zip).

New features:

1. added "Company" to the list of fields that are searched on an incoming call

2. added support for pictures for caller groups (you can now add a picture for a group of people!)

A lot of bugs were also fixed so if you experienced any problems with previous versions I suggest you upgrade to this one.

Enjoy 😊

Hello everyone,

We have just released version 2.4 of PhotoID. Except for a lot of bugfixes, the most important new feature is the ability to change the default image for the incoming calls (so that you don't have to see our ugly-looking one anymore 😊 ).

You can upgrade by downloading the new version from http://www.simeda.com/downloads/PhotoID-2.4.zip .

BTW, if you're in Munich between October 20th and October 24th, you might come and see us in person at Systems 2003 (Hall A3, Stand 407).

Take care,
Razvan

Another bug:
When I hang up a phone call, PhotoID don't close.
I see the picture until I press the red button.
I have firmware 05.06

It just happend sometimes.
Even if I press the red button or slide it together to hang up, the picture is freeze, so I have to press the red button again to get to the main screen.
See?

I have the same problem.

I know why!
I have the trial verion, and if I don't press "Try" before someone calls me, the app will hang.
It doesn't hang after I press the "Try" button!!
So I think this isn't a bug............. We just have to buy it :-O

This is definitely weird and not something we've designed the application to do 😊. I'll take a look ... but yes, you should buy it 😊.
