New full screen picture caller ID from SIMEDA

Am I the only 1 here that thinks fscaller is faster and more simple to operate and prettier with it's customizable skins. I also don't like the memory it consumes by saving modified images in its own folder...

Hello everyone,

Version 1.2 of PhotoID is now available for download at http://www.simeda.com/downloads/PhotoID-1.2.zip. It adds just one feature: a small icon near the number, just like in the default "incoming call" screen that Nokia has. It's a small cell phone icon for mobile calls, a small fixed phone icon for calls from landlines, etc. We've also fixed a nasty bug that only showed up for people with lots (300+) contacts in their contact lists (yes, if you must know, I have over 300 people in my contacts list 😊 ).

Let me know what you think.

The program stretched the image to fit the screen if it's small and distort the aspect ratio. Can something be done about it?

Also, we're so used to using the "c" button to delete an entry. Just felt a little clumsy when I have to press a few times to delete. 😉

Hi drazvan...
Nice soft, but as well as full screen caller from other firm, I noticed same problem... from time to time, when I receive a call, it starts the song assigned but it suddenly stops and starts NOKIA ORIGINAL TUNE !!!

I suppose it's due to lack of ram memory... do I have reason?

Is there any solution for this problem?
Will you fix it in future updates?

Thanks in advance for your answer.
Regards!

(sorry about my poor english  )

Hello everyone,

Version 1.4 of our PhotoID is now out (http://www.simeda.com/downloads/PhotoID-1.4.zip).

New features:

- United States layout for incoming numbers ( (xxx) xxx-xxxx ) - selectable from the Setup menu
- proportional scaling of images (images smaller than the screen are centered, larger images are proportionally scaled until their largest dimension fits the screen)
- reduced RAM usage (we found and fixed a bug)
- "quick delete" option for the contacts by pressing the "c" (cancel) key

Enjoy 😊

Thanks for the new update. Now the photos looked proportionate and not stretched.

In the PhotoID Contacts screen with the list of contacts, can we have sorting order? Right now the latest addition appears at the bottom. Would be good to be able to sort by:
1. name
2. latest call
3. image size (this will be useful if the image is saved by your apps seperately).
4. addition date (ie, as what it is now)

Can you also allow the option button to be activated by pressing the joystick when you're viewing the photo and want to change the image?

Lastly, would be good if the app can be hidden from the Task Manager List.

Nice work!!

Thanks Boon, we'll consider those changes for our next releases. Right now we're working on assigning pictures to groups of people (so that you can assign your corporate logo to the "Company" calling group, just like you assign a distinctive ringtone). Also, if any of you upgraded to version 1.4, please download and install version 1.4.1 (http://www.simeda.com/downloads/PhotoID-1.4.1.zip). 1.4 has a bug in the "start on reboot" feature, it sometimes fails to start.

Thanks,
Razvan

I had PhotoID v1.4 running for approx 6 hours, and found that my calendar alarm did not ring at the designated time. I've only done the following actions:

1. Started PhotoID and 'hide' it.
2. Made & receive calls.
3. Approx 5 hours later, switched profile to silent mode.
4. Added a calendar entry with alarm.
5. Passed the alarm time, no calendar notification.
6. Tried to exit PhotoID and got an App Closed message.

Not sure if this problem can be recreated. Maybe I can try again during a time when my meetings are not so important.

Hello everyone,

A new version PhotoID has just been released (version 2.0.0 - download location http://www.simeda.com/downloads/PhotoID-2.0.0.zip).

New features:

1. added "Company" to the list of fields that are searched on an incoming call

2. added support for pictures for caller groups (you can now add a picture for a group of people!)

A lot of bugs were also fixed so if you experienced any problems with previous versions I suggest you upgrade to this one.

Enjoy 😊

Hi, Drazvan! Your applic. sounds great. I'll try it out later. One question, though. Have you addressed the concern of one of our guests wherein photoid plays the assigned ring tone to a caller initially, then changes to the default nokia tune? Sometimes it plays only the default tune and not the assigned ring tone. FSC by symbianware also has this problem. Have you fixed this in photoid v4?

We still didn't trace that problem with the default ringtone. It has happened to me once with a very early version of PhotoID ... hasn't happened since but some people have reported it in the latest releases.

I'm not really sure what's going on. Could someone with the latest version installed check if the problem still appears? We've switched to a non-blocking access method for the contacts, we're not sure if that's what was causing it (as I said, the bug only manifested itself here in very early versions of PhotoID).

Also, about adding names with special character in them (the YEN symbol), we've tried it here and it worked like a charm. Could you please send some details to [email protected] (like your phone type, firmware version, etc.).

Thank you everyone, sorry for not anwering sooner, we're just real busy with a tradeshow here in Bucharest.

Hello everyone,

We have just released version 2.4 of PhotoID. Except for a lot of bugfixes, the most important new feature is the ability to change the default image for the incoming calls (so that you don't have to see our ugly-looking one anymore 😊 ).

You can upgrade by downloading the new version from http://www.simeda.com/downloads/PhotoID-2.4.zip .

BTW, if you're in Munich between October 20th and October 24th, you might come and see us in person at Systems 2003 (Hall A3, Stand 407).

Take care,
Razvan

I bought Full Screen Caller ID 3.0 from Symbianware 4 days ago because they appear the have the nicer looking interface with more configurable options in displaying callerID info than Simeda's version of full screen callerid.

However, Symbianware's fullscreen callerid app will NOT WORK period, at least on a brand new Nokia 6620! After installig it correctly, configuring it, my phone still uses the built-in thumbnail caller ID. I have begged them for technical support emailing every possible person in their company for 4 days in a row without getting a response back.

It's very nice to see that Simedia interacts with their customers to make their product(s) better.

My only wish is that the Simedia's interface for full screen callerID would be more flexible, having configuration options in showing the picture in full screen and how the colors, fonts, information shown is configurable; with the option to show ONLY a very big picture and little phone # and nothing else.

I have a 6620 and I installed photoid (trial) and setup all my contacts, but it doesn't work on any of my incoming calls....I'm in US, can anyone help me? I have fexplorer, but don't really understand it....help!

thanks
