Will 3650 software run on the 6600?

I've been doing some testing on the 6600 lately (mostly J2ME) and everything runs fine. The 6600 is just a little slower than the 3650 😊

more 16bit screen memory to move around, two color displays are quick! 😊

Is your's a release or prototype model?

Have you tried any J2ME bluetooth stuff?

Sounds great that everything seems to work on the 6600.

But anyway - It does not seem obvious to release a new version that is not compatible backwards!

Its firmware still in beta...

Let's hope it's a firmware issue, because in my opinion, 3650 IS very slow. If 6600 is even slower than it won't be slower, it would be stopped.

😃

The 3650 slow?Don't get me wrong i don't own a 3650(Still stuck with a 7650) but i have tried one and IMO,its one of the most reliable and fast smartphones out there. At least a lot more faster and reliable then MS Smartphones.

That's a bit of a rash statement to make considering you don't own these phones.

I have a Smartphone, yes it does have its bugs, but until the 6600 there really isn't much to touch it at the moment.

6600 May not run some programs if they are tightly integrated into the system. An example might be an answer phone program. This is because it runs s60 version 2 which has some fundamental differences.

I have both too and for me the 3650 is an easy winner.

Rafe, that's good to hear. I really want to like the 6600 and I will be first in the queue to buy one - it looks a real winner.

I use my phone more for business use and the MS Smartphone does have some distinct Symbian advantages:

Here is a list of features that are very important to me.

Today Screen (Series 60 add on)
Auto email synchronisation (Series 60 add on)
MSN (Series 60 add on)
Agenda day view. View a whole day's appointments without scrolling. (Series 60 add on)
Alarm time on Today screen (Series 60 add on)
HTML browser (Series 60 add on)
Shortcut keys to programs as well as contacts
Contacts category synchronisation with Outlook
Sync different users with the same version of Outlook
Continuous sync with Outlook while connected

But then the SPV doesn't have:

Bluetooth
A Camera
A Video recorder
Voice dialling
A decent keyboard
T9 words that save forever

But then again, the SPV2 is out in November!

😞 Speedwise only, I hope!? At least this usually improves with newer versions of the software (I hope)..

I think the thing is about Series 60 vs Smartphone is that in terms of base software each has its area of srength. There's no doubting that Smartphone sync with Outlook is a key selling point (that said I sync fine with my 3650, and have had more problems with smartphone hicups). The today screen is also a nice feature, but those who really use it (i.e. those who take the time to enter stuff into their diary etc etc) are those who are at the high end of the user curve - that means they do add 3rd party software and therefore I dont see having to add 3rd party software (especially with the choice available) as a particualry bad thing.

The shortcut keys is another good one (though note you can use the numbers when in the program screen on Series 60) - numbers run accross the screen ie.
1-2-3
4-5-6
7-8-9

Personally some of the things you mentioned dont affect me, but Ido understand that some people find them useful. The thing is I like Series 60 much better because it much easier to use (which is somewhat suprising given there are a lot of similarities in the interfaces). The speed is a big factor for me - I dont want to wait on a phone. The 3rd party software that can be added is a big plus point - though only up to a point. In particualrgood support for J2ME games is really nice. Then as you said a camera, bluetooth etc etc and probably key for me - a design that I prefer.

The 6600 addresses some of my concerns (low memory), shape (!), and has some other nice things - MIDP 2, better screen, multiple PDP connection, better international language support etc etc. I'm sure it will doing very well.

Rafe

I meant comparing a 3650 to an SPV. Comparing to a 6600 is harder since I haven't had much time with it, but that which I have had has indicated it similar in seed terms and has some nice extras that would make me choose it over the 3650.

Cheers.

I'm sure the 6600 is going be a great phone. My only worry is that I am going to be stuck with 2 phones (SPV2 & 6600) and I won't be able to make up my mind which one has to go!

Darn it.

Pagemakers,i just like to point out that the 7650 is a Smartphone, with very simlar features to the 3650.
