I recently have a problem with uploading images to Club Nokia. My GPRS connection has been activated and I can browse WAP pages / send email just fine.
It turn out that I Need to activate GPRS Internet for my phone account, not only just GPRS WAP. It is done successfully and I can upload pictures now.
I want to find the settings difference between GPRS WAP and GPRS Internet, but I found NO DIFFERENCE whatsoever in the settings. Both Access Point have the same things (username, homepage, Gateway IP, etc) EXCEPT the Connection Name and Acces Point Name.
Does anyone know the differences on the above? I want to know so next time I change phone, I know how to set it myself.
In my settings (manual), I don't need to configure the Gateway IP and homepage for GPRS Internet.
For comparison with CSD connections, I have setup a romote access server for both WAP and Internet access in my organisation. For WAP connection, in addition, users just need to point the the WAP gateway and the default WAP homepage which is accessible through the RAS. Normal Internet access is also through the same RAS. Both WAP and Internet access are using the same userid and password.
Hello dakl2000,
Thanks for the info. I am just puzzled that I can NOT upload pictures nor connect to email account if I use the WAP GPRS connection. So something must be different. funny thing is, both settings in my phone are totally the same.
Since you seem to be expert in this area, would you know why this happen?

Access Point Name (APN) defines which access point or gateway (think of it as a port) is used. When you use a WAP gateway, your operator has most likely blocked connections to Internet.
Then wh are there separate access points for Internet and WAP use? I think the main reason is that your operator can charge Internet traffic differently than WAP traffic. And usually they want to do that too.
Hi lanwarrior2000,
I am not an expert in this area, just that I've the opportunity to toy around with these devices and setups. I am just an enthusiastic user as you are and many here. 😊
[WAP GPRS] Hi mine is set for a homepage in WAP ie. http://wap.xxxxxxx and all the usual other stuff.
[Internet GPRS] No homepage just "Internet" as APN, no user name, a password, Secure and a gateway address.
Thats it
HTH
Dave.
i think, it also depends on your operator..
Greetings.
Been reading this thread with interest. I downloaded Handy Man 2005 Pro to my phone (SE910i) - SP is o2 (UK). It runs well but wont give me up-to-date news or weather. This is because it requires an "Internet GPRS" connection and states that it will not work with a "WAP GPRS" connection. I am in the process of asking o2 to supply details. It may well be that o2 would charge for "Internet GPRS", I will find out soon enough.
I to am having problems with MMS (upload hangs at 13%) & email connection (can send, but retrieve tells me it is connecting and then does nothing). 😡
