hi there...
i'm using win XP pro and i've installed the PC suite that comes with the phone. i also bought a IR (Mars II, using Sigmatel 4012) to make the damn phone "tok" to the computer.
the computer can detect my phone (i get the 7650 in range msg and the IR icon) but the nokia connection manager just says no phone connected even after selecting IrDA connection.
i can send pics and midi files to my phone but not the other way round...
i cant use the PC suite coz it needs to connect to the phone the first time it runs..
anyone any idea?
hello please change the settings on the pc suite to irda.once you do that you can connect the phone to the pc suite.
not its on the right hand bottom of your screen.
take care
Xach,
I also bought a SigmaTel base USB->IR device and had no end of problems getting it to lock with the 7650 long enough to get a transfer.
Much head scratching later and I went into the properties of the IR device and changed the chipset from default (linfeon?) to a vishay one. the sigmatel ones didn't work either.
whether this is xp or 7650 related I don't know but my ir is fine and error free now.
let me know if you want me to go into some more detail on what it was I changed and I'll check my details.

the nokia pc suite doesn't work on winxp, we're still waiting an upgrade or xp compatible version of it..

It works fine under xp for me!
Jelstar, did u use the vishay 6102F or the TDF
is there any other settings u changed?
do i need to restart my com after cahgning the settings for it to take effect
ok....finally i got that damn thing working..
i rollback my IR drivers and use the vishay TDF.
reinstalled nokia PC suite and finally able to connect..
now i got a problem with PC suite...
after my first time backup...(c:\nokia\hpname) i wanted to move the store folder to somewhere...i go control panels and after selecting the folder where i want , i get the error that one file is being used by task scheduler?..and the whole move process aborted.
PS: my nokia connection manager still shows no phone connected though
Well for me the properties that seem to work are:
Infra Red Tranceiver Type: Vishay 6101E
MIN Turn Around Time: 5.0ms
Speed Enable: 115200 (Default)
Not sure whether the turn around time setting affected anything but I can live with 4ms considering the small files being sent.
The unit I have isn't marked with a model number but Dabs list it as Eurotech E7535. Again I'm using this under XP. I haven't however bothered to load or try the Nokia Suite software.
Hope this helps someone, in short try all the different settings if your IR is playing up and it should work eventually.

hi. as far as i know, winXP is not compatible for Nokia yet.
though, some XP users are lucky to have succesful connection,
but in Nokia XP usage is still under research & development.
hi,
i am using nokia PC suite on win XP (home edition) and it works fine!
maybe this is of interest for you:
i have a CASIO infrared adapter connected to the COM port of my PC (costs about 50-60 ). it was originally designed for usage with a wrist camera watch. i tried to use it with my 7650 - and IR connection works perfectly at maximum speed!
all i had to do is install win XP infrared drivers for the COM port (it is done within 10 minutes!), then connect the adapter to the COM port, install Nokia PC suite... and it worked fine immediately!
the name of the IR adapter is CASIO PAD 2-B (you can get it in any good watch shop).
Hi,
I have a sigmatel USB it IrDA. I'm just not able to coonect the phone to the PC. Can anyone give me step by step instructions on how to do this? I have the Nokia PC Suite and a v6102F SigmaTel USB to IrDA adapter.
Thanks,
CJ
afaik the point is that xp and w2k do not ship the complete irda stack needed.... some irda-adapters have this included, some don't...
Hey I have exactly the V6102F and I'm not able to connect my 7650 to my win2k pro SP3 machine. All help would be appreciated.

It works fine on my PC. NOKIA Says that it has not been TESTET and not that is not spupported. So prloblems ca occure but there are numbers of PC that works just fine with PC suite.

yep yep lucky for those who can work it out
Hi,
I'm really a newbee and have never worked with something as an IrDA before. If someone can tell me what settings to tweak/set and get my phone to talk to my pc, it would help.
Phone: 7650
Adapter: SigmTel V6102F
OS: Windows 2000 Professionl on a LAN with SP3
Thanks,
CJ
ok if you are using w2000 then you are missing the irda-stack which M$ didn't ship...
you can go there:
http://www.heise.de/ct/faq/qna/irda_unter_windows_2000.shtml
and follow one of the 2 links in the text in the middle of the screen - the text is in german, don't be afraid though 😉
both links send you to pages where you can download and install freeware irda-drivers, when stuck with w2k is used the ircommw2k.de ones, i guess that should be the solution to your problems!
Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I downloaded the patch from microsoft but that cannot be installed because I already have service pack 3 and I'm assuming that they got rid of the problem with it.
Any other idea that I can do?
CJ
no idea from my side.... you might try the other drivers as well, maybe those work...
if it came to w2k and seeing a irda device but not beeing able to transfr data / connect to it, this was the tipical problem...
another idea - your irda port is built in...? look in the bios to see if it's configured to Fast-IR (FIR) or irda, maybe it helps to change this problem.... my notebook doesn't have irda at all, therefore i can only guess what might help.
good luck!
Hey,
Thanks for all the help. Finally I got the damn phone to connect to my PC. Its was a setting in the CMOS that I had to change.
Cheers
CJ
hi, what i've experienced is that the nokia data suite will work for windows XP, however, if you can't get it working, you need to remove the nokia connection manager, and then reinstall the whole nokia package from the software CD
But how I remove the Nokia connectivity manager? Where did I get it from in the first place?
errr, i've not yet found any other way of removing it except reformatting the hard drive, which is a bit severe, but it's in your control panel, embedded with the other stuff their.
Ok, Ive found another way here. Go to program/shared files/nokia/ncltools/. Delete all files in that dir. Then the apps i gone! (Try it at your own risk 😊)
why did you say try it at your own risk?
oh yeah, in XP, it's in program files > common files > nokia
