i was thinking and asked myself if is was possible to track/locate someone if you have his imei or phone number? is it possible to locate someone with this information, if so how can i do this?
thanks

The phone company can do that and the police could get the info from the phone company, if the legal side is cleared..

But apart from that I think it would be illegal to even do so.. AN app would not be enough.. The phone company would have to deliver the info to the app and that I doubt they are allowed to do.

My 2 cents

and if i give permission to do that would it than be legal so that my friends can see where i am?

There is software for this.
You login to the server from your PC and enter the mobile number, it will then give back the location.
Not sure of the legals, do you need to give permission, I'm not so sure. A google search should bring it up.

Also call AA roadwatch from any UK motorway from your mobile (401 100), the recorded message tells you where you are in the country - even which junction you are near on the motorway and give you a trafic report on the road ahead.

So - the systems are in place and companies are already using it to see where we are......

any hint's on what to search for on google?

thanks will. i know that was a bit of a stupid question. the link you gave is great. i've already signed up.
the service i'm using requires the permission of the owner/holder of the mobile i want to track before i can track them. they send a authorisation request via sms to the owner/holder. the owner/holder then has to reply to that sms to authorise tracking but once you have been authorised once you can track that person as much as you want.

He in a world where people are hooked up at USA base in Cuba, sure you will be traceable with your mobile phone. Legal or not .... nobody gives a shit!

here in Argentina, CTIMovil used to provide a tracking service to company fleets of mobiles.
the only problem came when the employers discover their employee doing anything except doing their job.

Most of them were caught going to motels, to the coast, beach, shopping, etc

In a short time, CTIMovil disables that service (which was free!!) and said that wasn't well accepted among the customers hahahahah 😉
