Well my beautiful 6600 arrived today, but I have spent the last 7 hours trying to get the PC suite to see my coms ports.
If I right click mRouter and choose properties no coms ports are listed, only 1 IR port (desktop so I can't use IR)
I am using windows XP and the TDK Bluetooth dongle. I have even been out today and purchased another dongle (Bluetake), installed it on another PC and I get exactly the same problem - No coms ports in nRouter.
Called Nokia and they say it's a problem with the dongle and windows not seeing each other.
Any ideas guys. I fed up with this messing around.
Still messing aound after 10 hours. PC suite setup is a total pile of junk.
I have a Dlink BT USB adapter, and it works just fine with the 6600. I use Win2000. I also have a XP machine, but haven't tried the BT connection on that PC yet.
Did you read the readme.txt. The info about the TDK adapter was exactly the same as with the Dlink.
Did you manage to pair the phone with the pc (without any Nokia SW)? mRouter shows a bunch of BT ports.
That sounds like a configuration problem in the bluetooth software. You need to tell the software to create a COM port set to link to the phone. I don't know how to do that, but I'm sure you need to talk to the BT vendor.
But this is not to say that the PC Suite isn't awful with bluetooth. I use a 3COM card, and it took forever to get it to work. Whenever I tried to enable the COM port, it would give me an error that the port was already in use - but enable it anyway!
One thing I learned about bluetooth when I had my T68i, though, is that just doing the same thing again and again makes it more likely to work.
What I finally found to make it work was to open the PC Suite and click "OK", even though mRouter thought the phone wasn't connected. Then, when I said to "chane devices" from the menu, mRouter would go and try to get a connection. About the 20th time I tried it, mRouter figured out that yes, the thing it was connected to really was a mobile phone. Then, by closing PC Suite and reopening it really really fast so the connection didn't time out and close (it took about 5 attempts), I finally got it to work.
Now, of course, once its connected it won't disconnect - I dread what will happen when my Jabra Freespeak comes tomorrow and I get a call after synchronizing, since the 6600 can only connect to one bluetooth device at a time.
I give in. Can't get it to connect to any of my PC's at all.
Phone for sale 😮
Have you tried the belkin bluetooth?
Can someone confirm that is working fine with the 6600?
People say its really good.
Here is the link:

I have 3 XP PC's and 1 XP laptop. Bluetooth works fine on the laptop but not the PC's. I have tried the TDK dongle and a non-brand. Get the same results.
In all cases i CAN make a BT partnership with my phone and ALL the BT comms ports get installed but mRoute does not see the ports and so the data suite does not work.
The fault is NOT with the BT devices. My Pocket PC works fine with them and the 6600 can connect also. It's just the blasted data suite that does not work.
Pagemakers, this sounds like exactly the issue I was having.
Did you try what I suggested?
The problem is not that mRouter doesn't see the ports. The problem is that it looks for an OPEN connection, but doesn't try to open the connection itself. So here's what I did:
1. In mRouter, check the boxes for both your serial-out bluetooth port and serial-in bluetooth port. Ignore any "application in use" errors.
2. Open PCSuite. Even though it says there is nothing connected, click OK.
3. In PCSuite, choose the "change device" (maybe its "select device"?) option from the menu. Click refresh in the dialog.
4. Check in your bluetooth software to see if it is trying to open a connection to the phone. If it is, just let it, and when it connects, pcsuite will realize that, and you can select the phone from the "change device" dialog.
5. If the software is not trying to open a connection, open up mRouter's port configuration thingy again. De-check the box for your serial out port. Then, check it again and ignore any errors. Then, in PCSuite (which you didn't close), again hit "choose device."
About 10 or 15 seconds later, I always get a good connection.

There are NO ports listed in mRouter to tick!! That's the problem.
I hate to defend PC Suite (which is a real piece of crud), but if you're not seeing any ports at all, I don't think that has anything to do with nokia. It sounds like you need to configure your TDK software to create a virtual port.
Why don't you try calling them?
All the virtual ports are installed. I can see them in device manager.
I can also make a BT connection from my 6600 & iPaq to my PC. I can not however get PC suite to see the virtual ports.
I have called Nokia. They say - we don't make the BT dongle and can't help.
Called TDK - They said if you can see the virtual ports and you can make a BT partnership then their software/hardware is working. Contact Nokia!!!!!
I had the same problem. I fixed it by uninstalling everything (PC Suite and the Widcomm software) Then I installed the Widcomm sw first followed by PC Suite.
Done that a dozen times on 3 different PC's
Pagemaker:
You post said that TDK said that if you can see the virtual ports, their software is working.
Your earlier post said that you could not see the virtual ports.
See the problem?
Got BT work with PC Suite!
BT USB Bluetake BT009X and I follow instructions of PC Suite's readme file. It is for TDK dongle but it works fine to Bluetake dongle.
1. Pair your devices
2. Open My bluetooth places
3. View or modify configurations
4. Select Discovery and select Add-Phones-Cellular-OK-apply
5. Check Local devices Bluetooth serial port-OK
6. Goto mrouter and check that same port is there
7. goto phones dicovery and find devices and make your configurations
8. open My bluetooth places and voila! you find bt serial port.
9. double click icon and you get connection

I don't have the phone anymore, but I could see the virtual ports in Windows Device Manager - There were about 10 BT Coms ports. mRouter however was blind to them and listed nothing in its configuration screen.
....See the problem?
see them in anything else? Like when creating a modem?
Uninstall your PC suite, remove your BT software.
Check the com ports, are they still there? (VERY IMPORTANT)
Also, when you intall the BT software, make sure that the bluetooth dongle is not in place. Remove it. Even if it says it can not find the bt. Just let the installation finish without putting the bt dongle.
Restart your PC. then place the BT. then install PC suite.
THe mrouter only detects the com ports from the listing.
Lastly, make sure that you are logged in as Administrator or equivalent (XP, 2K)
i had the same problems tried all day sunday but could not get it to work on both my pc's and my laptop ,infared was a no go also as soon as i enabled infared on my 6600 my pc crashed 😞 ... but as soon as i get home from work im going to try some of the things mentioned in this thread...

As a matter of interest, please let us know how you get on. Good or bad.
Does anyone know if there is an alternative piece of software to PC Suite as I think it sucks and it doesn't have the right functionality
I like the way ActiveSync and the SPV work where you just put it on the cradle and it Syncs automatically (and reliably!) with no user intervention - I want something that does the same for the 6600 😊
I looked and looked and looked. Found nothing and then sold my phone 😡
nope still did'nt work just crashed my pc just like it did when i tried infared so seems like mrouter is causeing problems for me 😞 think i will try again on my other pc or on my laptop...
How on earth can they make such a good phone with such crap software!
Have Nokia never seen how beautifully simple MS ActiveSync is?
Hi guys, I myself am having problems connecting through PC suite and with the BTtray.exe hanging at times. But I can send files to my 6600 with the BT file transfer.
On the problem with Mrouter not finding the right com ports. Try finding out if your system has an internal modem and if so, disable it. It turns out this can interfere with Mrouter finding available ports.
Hope this helps
E.
Strangest thing!
Ok this is what I did.
All was installed
pc rebooted
first made a file transport from mobile to pc
opened pc suite (no connection made)
pc suite offline --> extra --> change device
then went to dongle and made a serial connection with mobile
suddenly all was connected!!!
And I've tried to connect like a billion times without succes!
Hope this method will work for you people too (and for me when I want to connect again)
HEY man! i used have the same problem wif u! dun rely on forums 100%. Try all means by urself instead. I bought the BT dongle. Changed for a similar device thrice and got nuthin. the pc suite couldnt get it eventhough i was able to transfer files to my comp through BT. this is how i did it [3 times as i reformated my hard disk due to bloody worms!]
1. in MY BLUETOOH PLACES... search for your device (make sure phone BT is on). Then go to modify CONFIGURATION... make SURE your PC allows other devices to detect it!
Make sure your phone PAIRS with your PC as well! and from your phone, select SET AS AUTHORISED in pairs devices.
2. Click LOCAL SERVICES and see which com port is used for BLUETOOTH SERIAL PORT (if none, create one!).
Then open your CONNECTION MANAGER and select the specified Com Port under SERIAL PORT CONNECTION logo (most left). Ignore if there's anything pop up (if nuthin it's great).
Then on the 'My Bluetooth Places\Entire Bluetooth Neighborhood' Right click your Phone logo and click CONNECT BLUETOOTH SERIAL PORT [enter pswd for it]
4. Then close all and make sure the mRouter ticks the specified Com Port. Re open the nokia PC suite. It should ask u to enter the nickname for your phone instead of showing that annoying message asking u to connect the phone.
Gd Luck!
Btw why did u sell ur phone? i'm downloading so many programs for it u know! it's a great phone overall. Cheers.
Phew! Like many posters I've had hours of harmless fun trying to get mRouter to see my COM ports and thus to get PCSuite to work. Your advice worked for me, specifically:
(1) Disable internal modem.
(2) Do not plug in dongle until reinstallation is complete and you've rebooted.
Thanks all.
Well I can get PC Suite for 6600 to connect and download contacts from my 7650 but not my 6600. Is there an alternative program that will just let me back up contacts onto my PC? PC Suite is truly an awful piece of software. Nokia really need to pull their finger out 😡
