is it worth getting on orange?

12 replies · 3,758 views · Started 06 November 2003

do you think it's worth it getting this phone on orange now? or do you think it'd be any better on the other networks, i don't think i've found out anything yet about orange' on customization that they always like to do on their phones so if anyone knows, please share.

but i went into the tmobile store that's local to me, of course they know nothing though as they didn't even know about gprs packages months after it was released, but anyway, they said that they would get the p900 handset early next year, vodafone have the handset listed on their website but without a price, and o2 have briefly mentioned it in their new multimedia support for the phone, of course it'll be out on all networks but it's just a matter of when, therefore, i don't know whether i should wait for it to come available on tmobile, or just to get it on orange,

i hope that fellow members here will be able to offer their opinions 😛

I've been with Vodafone for years now, I wanted to move to Orange when the P800 was released, but it was released on Vodafone first so I ended up sticking.

I've got my P900 on Orange now, the reasons I wanted to move to orange as they always seem to be ahead of the rest in data terms, they were and still are the only UK Network to off high speed dialup, and the GPRS packages seem great.

Also their no hassle Orange care seems great from what i've heard.

I've also been with One2One (T-Mobile) before and to be honest IMO they are better than O2, but the data charges always seems quite high...not sure what it's like now.

I find that Orange offer the best competition for the type of people who are aware of new services and want to be the first to try them - the only thing that has let them down in the past has been the relatively slow release of the new handsets, due to Orange wanting to test them and have them up to spec so there were less problems on release.

It now seems that they are on top of this and perhaps the symbian OS has helped them with this as I doubt much is changing in the OS apart from addition of a couple of services and Orange are keen on being the first to release the much awaited P900 and 6600 on there networks.

I have also found Orange to offer the best content and services through wap and are very good at supplying content specfic to your phone. They have a deal through Annanova and so are kept up to date on news at a high quality...

I think every network has problems with customer service due to the nature of the product but although have tried to baffle me a few times - nothing has worked better than a "can I speak to your manager" quote and before you knwo problem solved. The orange care which may seem pricey is definitly the best out there, covered for loss, damage, theft, pretty much everything and the new phone will be couriered to you the next day even if you phone later afternoon, SAturday deliveries are also not a problem, when lets face it - most of us can not be without a phone anymore....

The service plans that Orange offer also give them the pip to the post, It used to be that most people on Orange were with them for the quality of network and service but were using a T-mobile tarriff or any other tariff which suits you and you can change it monthly I mean what more can you ask for. But now I find that if you are using data then Orange's own plans are more and more enticing and by far the most future proof.

I think if you want to be at the front of the industry then Orange is certianly there with you. I find it a big surprise that such a huge company live Vodafone cannot replicate this sort of service in terms of content, service, prices, or even the actual style of the brand...I mean the mere fact that when trying to sign up to a vodaphone MMS package or Wap package you have to physically ring another comapny which is only open monday to Friday 9 - 5 - what this all about.

I have frequently rang Orange at 2 ro 3 in the morning when requesting information like this with no problems what so ever...
I dont work for Orange by the way and maybe I am baised as you can see I am impressed by them -

sooooo the choice is yours...

wow, those are rather long revies, thanks. i've got a copy of all tariffs on all major uk networks at the mo and i just need to go through them all, the thing with orange, is that i only get a third off the line rental with them, whereas tmobile and o2, i'd get 50% off the line rental which i would rather go onto tmobile or o2 (tmobile because i'm on it now and it's fair do's, i'm used to the network and their customer services and o2 because they have the cheapest text messages at 16 quid for 400 messages) 😕

it'll be a hard choice i know

i don't know where else to post this so...

regardless of what ANYONE says, it's NOT 3 months, it's 1 month before you can change tariffs on orange.

i phoned up orange sales direct as i went through to customer services previous to the call and they said that it's generally three months before you can change the tariff, so i spoke to sales direct and the dude said that they advise customers it's 3 months before changing, so i said but that's not a definitive answer, and started quizzing him, i then asked are these phone calls recorded (between me and him) and he said no and he started giving in, he said that they are told to just advise customers to stay for three months before changing, but as i quizzed him on it, he couldn't lie and he said i wouldn't incur any penalty charges if i changed tariffs before the three months were up, concluding that you can change tariffs after one month....which he admitted in the end. 😃

Hi nk8, i have the same problem, been with t-mobile for 6 years, i spend guite a bit and always get what i want in the way of discounts, upgrades etc. But i want the p900 NOW! Tempted to move to orange to get this, what price have you been quoted with them, ?180 is the best i can find

my plan is as follows...

phone carphonewarehouse direct and get them to price match www.onestopphoneshop.co.uk who do p900 on your plan 400 for 69.99, caphonewarehouse direct can only match prices upto 50 quid so i'm gonna also gonna mention that www.mobileshop.co.uk is doing it for 89.99 on the same tariff, so that'd try to get them to knock an extra ten quid off, then i'll say i'm taking out their insurance lifeline complete and try and get further fiver off it, the first call i make, if they say they can't go lower than 100, then i'll just say "oh, it's alright, i'll leave it then", and just phone back again, they have numerous call centers, the chances of going back to the same one is slim, but he might try and stop me leaving by making a better offer 😃

Orange's GPRS is very very flakey, I won't go into the technical reasons as to why.

Their customer serivce is appaling, and has been since they were taken over and cost cutting was introduced.

Their upgrade polciy has just been changed and means you will get shafted in 12 months time.

Their "free minutes remaining" line is usless; its updtaed once in a bluemoon and is out of service 40% of the time.

Their SMS bundles are a complete rip off;
16 = 400 SMS on O2
20 = 400 SMS on T-Mobile
24 = 360 SMS on Orange

On the plus side:

Their GPRS packages are very good value for money.
They have the P900 *now!*
They offer 14 day money back
Their WAP portal is brilliant, easily the best in Europe IMO

My advice would be to sign up on YourPlan 400, keep the P900 on Orange for a few (4) months and then unlock it, pop in your T-Mobile sim, and change down to the HSDP tariff with Orange @ 9.99 per month.

OR

Buy a vanilla P900.
Upgrade your T-Mobile to a Samsung E700.
Sell the E700 for 250+
Put this money towards paying off the P900 shaped dent on your credit card!

lol, i was thinking: after the first month of your plan 400, then downgrade to ovp virgin...meaning no line rental 😎

The virgin ovp before the 12 months is up, is charged at something like 15 a month,better to leave it on talk 30 or something.

I think i'm going to stick with my P800 for the while. I hear that there will be some kinda software update from handset facility comming soon, so i'll wait for that.

My younger bro's getting the P900 from e2save on the OVP O2 MAX for free at 75 for the first 3/4 months.

I've just got got the nokia D211 card so i'm not even going to think about any new phones for another 3 months or so.

Ive been with Orange with my P800 and the service has been brill, got a same day replacement with orange care whn my first one died! Orange discount has changed to 40% of line rental and 25% off budles now, or thats what im getting anyway!

yeah, i noticed that on the internal staff discount tariffs, but it's still quite expensive though cmpared to the normal 50% off o2 and tmobile, the text messages on orange are the most expensive and ridiculously priced...however, with the 2000 text offer at the moment, that's good as it means i won't need to buy any text for 6 months. also, you get orange world access pack free for the first year when on the staff tariff
