EUREKA! Phonebook from 7650 to 6600!!!

Many of you may have experienced the erratic behaviour of the 6600 PC Suite when trying to import the 7650 phonebook into the 6600: Data is lost during the transfer and even if all the contacts are created, most of their data is missing! This has happened to me as well as everyone I know who tried to do the same.

There are two obvious workarounds:

Transfer the contacts one by one using IR or BT, which is VERY tedious work for large phonebooks.
Use MS Outlook synchronization with both phones. However, Outlook tends to discard multiple fields of the same type (it supports certain number of them), so some of your data may be lost! Besides, no thumbnails are transferred this way.
I came up with another solution that is quite easy and transfers EVERYTHING from the 7650's phonebook to the 6600, including thumbnails:

Enter the 7650 phonebook and select Options->Mark/Unmark->Mark all. All entries will be checked.

Then select Options->Send business card->Via email (it's the only choice). A new email will be created with one VCard for every phonebook entry attached to it. This procedure may take a long time, it took several minutes with 297 contacts and the resulting email was about 250Kb.

Now send the email from the 7650 (e.g. via GPRS), receive it on the 6600, save the attached VCards and ..voila!
In case GPRS (or its cost) is a problem, you can also use the well known connection to the internet via the PC, using Bluetooth and the appropriate Access Point as discussed in the 7650 forum in the past!

I hope I have helped! 😊

Vcard worked perfectly with only one work around.

On my 7650 once the export file was made and bluetoothed to the 6600 the 6600 inbox saw the .vcf file as a business card and would not let me import its contents.

So I emailed it from my 7650 to my 6600 and then using eFilemanager cut and pasted the attatchment to my 6600 E: where I could then import its contents perfectly.

Thanks for the advice!

Smartcard worked ok for me.

Any1 knows if it's possible - to backup nokia 6600, and then that to restore that backup on other nokia 6600 ?

If you rename the file to <whatever>.vcd (once you have got it out of Messaging) it would be picked up fine.
