Siemens SX1 dumped?

10 replies · 6,299 views · Started 10 December 2003

From a very reputable source in my country(Im not allowed to mention his name or position in the Siemens organization) I learned that the long awaited Symbian device from Siemens, the SX1 doesnt have a bright future.

The device is going the be released in the stores very soon The protos of the SX1 were sent for re-flashing in the Siemens head office in Germany, hopefully to return with a final version of the firmware. The doesnt have a bight future part is that Siemens will no longer focus on the SX1 or Symbian in the future and that probably the SX1 will be produced in relatively small quantities. My source stated that Siemens received a better offer from Microsoft. When I asked what was better in Microsofts offer to my surprise he replied that the Symbian OS and Series 60 UI were too closed for their taste and that Microsoft gave them a more open OS.The good news for future SX1 owners are that they will be able to updates SX1s firmware from home and that it will receive on par support with other Siemens handsets.

Comments are welcome.

Sounds like a lot of bollocks 😊

SX1 has been available for 3 days now, the first german reviews are popping up and only positive comments so far 😃

Bollocks?Maybe.FUD?Probably.If its FUD,it is really missdirected, who will it reach here in Macedonia 😃
On the other hand, the information is posted on one of the biggest Symbian communities in the world,so,maybe its not so missdirected, talk about conspiracy theory 😃

I certainly hope its either of them because one more major phone manufacturer dumping Symbian is not a good sign.

I think it was a rumour created by what MS said a couple of days ago, that they would like to see another Siemens handset with MS OS.

Xonio.de have a SX1 review today. It ended up on top (of course 😃 ), above the P900 and 6600 😎

molna, any english reviews?I'm pretty curious to see why it ended on top of the p900 😕

GhostDog, no worries, their ranking methods are ridiculous at best. 😃

They don't list their phones into categories, which would be the logical thing to do when performing tests on very different handsets.

If you were to take their test scores seriously, you would think that the SE T610/Z600 and Motorlola V550 etc. are better than the SE P800... 🙄

LOL!

Well that is curious Sendo dumps Microsoft and Siemens laps it up a year later. Sendo said they could not work with Microsoft and that it was expensive as far as I can remember. So something strange is going on. Maybe microsoft in its new found wisdom has finaly put its head to the grind stone and designed a decent OS at a decent price or Siemens knows something we dont or this is complete propaganda bullshit and GhostDog is a spy for microsoft. Hey wait it makes perfect sence even the name sugestes a spy. KILL GHOSTDOG THE ANTI-SYMBIAN!!!!!! I am from Greece never trusted Macedonians anyway!!!

Only joking ofcourse.

Back to reality well it sounds interesting GhostDog keep us posted.

Take care now!

First of all it is really strange. Let's put some pieces of the puzzle together.

Long before the SX1 Siemens had another phone with PDA cababilities, or better say a PDA with phone capabilities (created in cooperation with Canon), the SX45 which has a Microsoft OS. Surely the device came out quite fast with no problems on the production (like the SX1 had) but having inmind that SX45 was mainly a Canon PDA with Siemens phone applications, you can easily say that most of the hard job was made by Canon. So it will be the easy way for Siemens to produce such devices like the SX45 (and as far as I know there was an agreement between the two companies/Canon-Siemens always for more devices like the SX45).

Now Siemens has bought some portion of the Symbian right(and this was done after the agreement with Canon)?(And I don't remember how much but it is quite the same with the other companies that owns Symbian). I think that only Motorola has sold its share...correct me if I am wrong. Siemens hasn' done anything like that yet. So Siemens is binded to produce more PDA like phones, but it hasn't given up on Symbian.

Now the excuse of the MS OS being more open than Symbian is the very thing that makes Ghostdog's source unfaithfull. Sendo had many difficulties with Microsoft for this simple reason, because Sendo didn't had the freedom wanted to produce the phone the way they wanted. Microsoft was very strick on this thing, and there was only one way to success. Just like the type of Canon-Siemens thing. Most of the work made by Canon/Microsoft and only a small portion by Siemens.

We all know what was after the disagreements of MS-Sendo.
So is it really fake what Ghostdog's source said?

Most likely it may be true but only in some way.The SX1 is very high priced for what it gives (640euros to me are prety high, why not give 100euros more and buy the P900,or even much less for the Sendo?). So why not claim that SX1 will be dicontinued so they will sell more by advertising as a collective piece (which will won't be). Or maybe an easy (and faulty) excuse for some operators that they cannot easily distribute some products. But even if all of the above are untrue then there is somthing very fishy with the MS thing, and as mentioned above conspiracy theories...maybe.

I am quite sure the next smartphone from siemens will be the successor of the SX45, and after that they may produce another Symbian phone,so you may say that it is quite true what Ghostdog said having in mind how slow Siemens is on producing phones... but not as accurately as said.
