...all i got in the end was the ability to save the 'image' as a wallpaper!
I downloaded the theme from theme6600.tk on to my laptop and transfered it via infrared to my 6600. It took a while to transfer but on completing the transfer i received a message in my inbox...here i had the option to save the 'theme' but all i got in the end was a simple image.
Please advise where I am going wrong.
Was it a sis file or mbm?
in order fo ryou to install a theme correctly, it has to be a .sis file
Where can I get .sis files?

Lots of themes for your 6600. Over 20 themes and all are sis. But you have to register. The page is in Italian but its not that hard to find your way around there. If i can, you can. 😎
