I want some info on animated mbms and mbms in general. What is a good mbm editor (free preferably). How do you create animated mbms?
Any further info would be grate!

Ismail dont mean to be rude but there are definetaly mbms for n-gage they are a standard as far as i can see in symbian series 60 platforms. All the icons you see within the series 60 are most likely mbm. Their full name is multibitmaps. Anihow the reason i want to know is because mobilpluz uses animated mbms to create small animations(not gifs) so i want to create some custom animations. Hope someone has an answer for me!

yeah i tryed that program than took an mbm from 6600 but it still didnt work

we would love to have themes on n-gage

cause as far as i know there are no themes because they are available only on series 70

I have mobilepluz and it uses animated mbms and it works. Try it! Its not themes it just shows an icon or an animated mbm everytime something happens. It works i just want to create more animated mbms. Themes as such for the n-gage do not exist but third party progs that give the illusion of themes do, but i'm sure you were aware of that.

yeah but usiing mobileluz does it change ur entire look??

cause when i used it it only worked when after screensaver or something like that and the menu was the same

mayby i used it wrong🙄 🙄

mbm is a graphics file, like a jgp or a bitmap. While it can hold multiple images (liek a gif) it does not have animation built into the file format.

You might be trying to install mbm files for themes as on the 6600. The 6600 runs the second 'version' of Series 60 which has theme support. The N-Gage runs version 1, and it doesn;t have theme support, hence why nothign works.

thank you guys for the input. I use mobilepluz to play an animation or show an icon when i get a message or a call. If you go to the mobilepluz web site you will see it supports animation for mbms. call me stupid but it does.
Here you go here is the link

http://www.mobile-pluz.com/Main/Features.html

How can i create the animated themes for it and what is a good app to create mbms.
I have tried to follow links but i cant find anything.
I will probably email the guy.
Thanks for your input guys sorry about any confusion caused

You're confusing a couple of things here. There is no "Series 70" (from Nokia or Symbian).

The 6600 runs version 7.0s of the Symbian operating system & on top of it Series 60 version 2.0.

The N-Gage runs version 6.1 of the Symbian operating system & on top of it Series 60 version 1.2.

Themes came to Series 60 based phones with Series 60 version 2.0.

Like Ewan said, mbm can hold more then one image but doesn't have animation built-in to the format, hence a mbm image doesn't animate on its own,you need an application like mobilepluz.

For editing mbm files search for XnView or bmconv.

Hi sorry took a while I was on vacation

Sorry to tell you that unfortunatly there is no program out jet to create mbms easily. the only way I know is to download the nokia series 60 sdk (which is around 100MB) and than use search in the help of the sdk after
bmconv
that is the script how to create mbms

Hope that hepled you !!!

If you got a set of real cool animations send them us we make a theme out of them!!!

MR Rossi

Working on it. I now use bmconv and GIMP to create my animated mbms. When I get a whole theme together I will send it to you.

Yea Dazler MBMWizzard would be great! I remember when i first started looking for info on the animated mbms and found a link to MBMWizzard unfortunately it was no longer there. If you do put it back up please post link.

GhostDog I would gladly post a tutorial on the subject but the info is pretty limited and to a certain degree incomplete. I can create a sequence which mobilepluz can use but i dont know how to set a time limit between each subsequent animation change other than repeating the smae image multiple times in order to get the desired effect. If any one knows the solution to this issue i would be greatefull!
As for how i create animated mbms. I first take whatever I wish to make into an animated mbm. Open it in GIMP (you can use paint if using GIMP is a bit daunting) and create the various stages of animation and export them numbered starting from 0(0.bmp, 1.bmp, 2.bmp). Then put them in folder and use bmconv to create your mbm.

If you guys want me to make a tutorial say so and I will include screen shots and so on.

The welcome screen on almost all series 60 phones is also 'animated' and also mbm. Some months ago I tried the xnview app with no luck in creating mbms with multiple bitmaps.

I'll may retry one of these days using bmconv which I only used for wildskinz.

Ahh, this whole mbm thing brings back memories...

Creating a mbm with multiple bitmaps is no problem. The problem is that the mbm doesn't animate on its own.You will need an app like mobilepluz to do it.I think the Nokia startup logo uses some unstandard mbm format.

N-GAGE does support MBM, I tried changing the OPLOGO of my N-N-GAGE with a BMP I made. I almost lost my patience changing the filename 515_2_0.bmp to other possiblities to work. At the end just changing the extention .bmp to .mbm was the solution. Now have a colored OPLOGO. whoooooo!!!!

BTW, 515_2_0 is my OPERATOR ID here in the Philippines.

Just dug this up,i hope you are looking for the startup animation file.On the 7650 was z:\system\data\startup.mbm.On the N-Gage it should be z:\system\apps\startup\startup.mbm
