N-gage Tones

I am not able to transfer the n-gage built-in midi ringtones to my N7650. Has someone done it? I am trying to copy via FE Explorer. The tone gets copied to the N7650, but doesn't play...... Just a blank file.😞

Can someone guide as to how it is to be done.

p.s:- I especially like the Jungle tone and need it badly!😉 😃

The tones get copied and they play, but only some sounds in the tone are heard in the N7650. Please note that this is not with all tones, while some tones play ok. I guess the N-gage has some special speaker..... because AFAIK both phones use the beatnik engine.

P.s:- The tones which I tried copying are:-

1. Jungle- only some sound are heard on the N7650.
2. The special message tone like Whirl
3. Medieval tone copied plays OK.

Has anyone tried copying the original tones like jungle, whirl, casque, excitement from N-gage to N7650/N3650/N6600?

@Ghostdog - could you kindly check?

I had the same problems as you machtoners.I guess the N-Gage supports more midi channels then the 7650.

Thank you for the info Ghostdog.😊 I must say that the N-gage has the best speakerphone in the symbian family. The tones sound pretty loud and clear😊

I strongly believe that it has nothing to do with the channels but rather the size of the samples. As much as I remember beatnic has a 0.5MB max size of samples. The samples size in the 7650 is less than 200kb I think. So I believe that Nokia just added better and higher quality samples in N-GAGE (maybe in order to give better support for the Game developers).

*Newbie question:What is Samples*
Samples are just sounds of varius instruments like guitar, piano. The wavetable synthesizer (Beatnik is one of them) reads the info from the midi (polyphonic) file and using the info there plays the notes using the samples. To put it a little more simple way, samples are like the soundfonts in the Sound Blaster AWE/Live!/Audigy series.

PS:By the way I think that the sample file is located in Z:\System\Data\Beatnik\ but I am not sure, correct me if I am wrong...

Well talking about s60 devices, surely it has the best one. But if we talk in general for all symbian devices, I don't know. P900 also sounds terrific (even better than the also good but older P800). Nokia's 9210 has also a very good loud speaker(but only waves no MIDI). So in general it is very hard for my ear to choose.
N-Gage or P900...

I sincerely thank Ghostdog & MemphisX to try to research into my problem. When I first tried to copy N-gage tones to N7650, I thought there might be a problem in my phone😉 . But then Ghostdog and then MemphisX clarified.😊

@MemphisX- If the P900 speakerphone is as loud and as clear as the N-gage, then I take back my statement for N-gage speakerphone. I personally like the looks of the P900- it's the best PDA-phone in the market.😊

I think Nokia should build up the "Communicator" section. I have no clue why nokia is not concentrating on it's line...........😞

The path is correct. The file in there is Npatches.hsb .. But funny thing is. My file is only 291.1KB (shown in Fexplorer 1.10).. Same for the rest of you?

Same here

@Memphis X - If we replace the patch On C:, can we play N-gage tones?

@Ghostdog- Are you aware of the new line for communicator- pls give details or the forum link?????

@Ghostdog- After you mentioned, went to the 9210 forum and got to know abt the 9310. I hope these are just not rumours- and that Nokia will announce the communicator line within a month. Thanks anyway for the link😊

I doubt...

By the way, speaking for the size of the samples, it doesn't need to be 0,5MB. This is just the max size the beatnik synth. can use. That's why you'll may see less. The size of it in my 7650 is less than 200kb...

Anyway if developers find a way we may even see programs converting sample files(eg. soundfont <-> beatnik)...
