Ive just sold my crappy n-gage to get a 6600 when it finnaly comes out on t-mobile uk (anyone have a date). I was just wondering though, I had a look at my mates 6600 and i couldnt see a usb port to connect a usb cable, I am hoping that the 6600 does have a usb cable, because if it hasn't then how do you put a file on the mmc thats bigger than the phones memory, Do i need a card reader?
6600 usb
Hi there!
There are three ways of doing this:
1: the one you mentioned- card reader
2: connect through Bluetooth(BT) or Infrared (IR) to the pc, set the messaging memory to be on the MMC and transfer. In this way, files will appear in your inbox, but the inbox will be on your MMC,so you can transfer as much as your MMC is capable of storing.
3:connect through BT or IR and transfer directly to your MMC using
the PC Suite or FExplorer..

Sorry,I forgot to mention one more option, even though,in some cases, there are limitations in size due to servers and the fact that it's expensive if done a lot.. this fourth option is emailing the file to your phone using GPRS connection...

Cheers, I didn't think you could change it so the messaging memory was on the mmc
On the N-Gage you can't, but on any other Series 60 phone (with a memory card) you can.

Yes,you can... go to messages > options > memory in use: (set it to mmc) 😉
Quite easy.. 😉
that is very helpful! thanks for sharing. 😊
Does anybody know why there's no data cable available for the 6600?
I'm having problems with Bluetooth and it would be quite nice to just plug in a cable to the bottom and do it that way instead 😃
to me the data cable, if it exists, would plug insid ethe phone. Making contact with the little row of dots next to the SIM holder. Similar to the 3210 etc
The only problem is you can't do anything with the cable because there is no software for it.
I find it strange that KROSS hated the N-gage so much but is so obsevant of his friends phone that he didnt realise it didnt have a USB port or couldnt think to ask him.
I am happy that people express their opinions freely but it woudl help to back them up and saying the N-gage is crap and following it with such an unresearched question leaves doubt in my mind over his opinions.

Couldn't you still use PC Suite? Surely it would talk down a COM port whether it was Bluetooth or a cable?
pasa,i couldn't agree more!
Deej,no,it doesn't work,i think 😕
I believe the data cables are only used for upgrading the firmware by authorised NSC staff, and cannot be used at all in communicating with PC Suite - IrDA or Bluetooth only for that.
pasa..... If you looked at my post more clearly, you would have noticed that i said : "I had a look at my mates 6600 and i couldnt see a usb port to connect a usb cable" , so I did notice that my friends 6600 didn't have a usb port, and wondered how i could transfer a file bigger than the phones memory to the mmc without using a usb cable. My friend doesn't even have a p.c so it was no good asking him, that is why I came here. so actually my question was researched, I found out that the 6600 didn't have a usb port, and came here to ask the question, also, Ghostdog, you are a moderator and therefore should be reading the posts, but you musn't have read mine properly if you are agreeing with pasa.
I was merely pointing out that you slated the N-gage which is not that altogether different than the 6600 and then the one thing it appears you need on the 6600 isnt there but was on the "crappy N-gage" that you got rid of - Irony I guess.
But in your message you said your friends 6600 didnt have a USB port so why would anyone elses I am wondering?
The other point I was making is that if you dont know how to transfer large files to the 6600 ( which is a very fair question to ask in these forums) then how could you possibly have given the N-gage the chance it maybe deserved - as I have already pointed out in this post - they are not all that different in the way they work with regards to MMC cards etc...and it would be fairly easy to find the answer to all your questions by looking at the tech spec for the phone and reading the forums....
but apart from that no offense was meant.
P
pasa.... I see where your coming from, so lets just leave it at that.
I believe KROSS's opinion about the N-GAGE being crappy is mainly the PHONE N-GAGE is crappy, due to it's design flaws (mainly big size and funny way of making calls). I also strongly believe that, so that's why I'll first buy a decent SmartPHONE (for the phone capabilities, either SX1 or P900) and if I'll have any more money I'll by the N-GAGE SMART(but not so)phone mainly for gaming. If not I can do my job with just SX1/P900 or wait for the Tapwave Zodiac to come in Europe (I don't need the phone capabilities in a gaming device).
Anyway just my opinion, no offense
I have brought a nokia 6600 usb data cable on e bay but i cannot connect it to my computer. All i read about is com ports. can anyone help or tell me where i can get some software enable me to use the usb cable.
The 6600 doesn't have USB.
the cable connects to the computer using usb and to my phone where the battery goes. using the pins next to where the sim card goes. The phones battery is put on the back of this to power up the phone. But there is no software to use it. HELP
You are right, there is no software for those cables so they are useless.Get yourself a Bluetooth USB adapter.
i would sggest an mmc card reader as they would work with almost any new phone

thats the link for the 6600 cable i brought if they manufacture it there must be a way of getting it to work
It was posted earlier in the thread that this cable is used only by techinicians to do firmware updates etc. Therefore it has no software or means to connect to a pc for file transfer purposes unfortuneately it seems you got ripped mate spend the money on the usb dongle or infrared adapter.
My recommendation would be infrared considering the problems ive had with bluetooth recently
This is not correct. You can get 6600 USB Software from http://www.epocware.com to use with these cables. People keep saying there is no such software when there actually is.

Erm.....where? I have just been to the site to check your claim and under 6600 software there is nothing that will use the USB cable. And why should there be? As it has been stated the USB cable is used by Nokia Service Centres and technicians for firmware updates and other such things.
There are people in the world trying to sell useless USB cables to people who have used cables for their phones in the past and do not realise the above facts.
If the company who you bought them off of say they work then get them to provide you with the software or provide you with a link to it.
I would also be worried that rhe eBay seller's location is in Singapore but the item is in the UK.
Sounds dodgy to me.
Hey, i have the exact same problem as you. I also bought a useless data cable without doin my research, i now have a BT dongle, awaiting delivery.
There is no way you're gonna get that to work for purposes you want it for, its all a big rip off to me :icon13:
😡 Damn! Looks like i should also have done my research before purchasing one of these cables. I just cannot understand why people are selling these if they cannot be used in anyway :con? I got provided with 'drivers' but (after looking at these posts) i'm not suprised they didnt work! If any1 does find any software anywhere - plz let me know (i dont like wasting money!!)
