I started a topic a while back because my PC wouldn't recognise my n-gage, the problem was I didn't have a memory card.I've now got a 64mb MMC, but I connected the n-gage to the computer and it recognised it fine, and then I unplugged it and then it said memory card corrupted so now when I connect to the PC it doesn't recognise it as a removable drive. Please help???
I've formatted it by the way.
Memory card problem
you should of just switched off your phone instead of formatting it when it said corrupt, this usually fixes it w/o formatting it. i made the same mistake! now the only way for your computer to see that paticular MMC is to use a card reader, or use BT connection w/ PC suite.
i had the same problem, but all my other MMC's work just fine.
hope that helps
so how do you use PC suite to make the PC recognise the MMC???
And whats BT connection????
Answering 2 questions at once:
BT- Bluetooth
And you can only use the PC Suite if you have a bluetooth thingy in your computer (highly unprobable). If you really want to you can buy an USB BT sender/receiver.
my PC doesn't have bluetooth, Is there anything else I can do???
pc suite isnt realy designed for use with mmcs its mainly a way to interface contacts and the internal memory of the computer to the pc. You should look into nokia audio manager(Also on the cd) and forget about pc suite for now. Also to avoid corupting mmc make sure you dismount the drive before disconecting it. Dismounting means clicking the little icon down the bottom and selecting disconnect drive selct the n-gage from the list and then you get a message you can now safely remove the device. click ok and disconnect usb.
so I've downloaded Nokia Audio Manager, what do I do now????
unistall nokia pc suite for starters.
Once done restart pc. when restarted install audio manager. Once installed and everything ok. restart(as a precaution). Once restarted plug in n-gage with formated memory card. Then windows should locate new device and install drivers for it. If it asks you for any drivers concerning the n-gage point it to the n-gage cd-rom. After that is done you should be ready to go. also dont forget to look in the tray at the right hand corner of the desktop there you should see a funny icon with a green arrow. right click on that and unplug hardware once you are done downloading stuff to n-gage. once it says you can disconnect the hardware then and only then disconnect n-gage. Hope this helps
Still doesn't recognise it😡 !!!! HELP ME!!!
you have win 98?
Do you have anyone who has another computer?
I am trying to avoid a complete fresh instalation of windows. Because if you honestly have tried all that has been recommended to you then that is your only solution. I cant understand why you pc wont recognise mmc/n-gage. What you need to do is test it on someone elses computer if it works then i am sorry but you wont escape the fresh instalation of windows and even then there is no guarantee. I wish i lived near you so i could look at it myself.
Is your usb onboard or is it a seperate card?
Have you got the latest drivers?
If you dont have the latest drivers download and install and try again.
If you do unistall and install them again. Try installing audio manager again.
Give me a complete breakdown of your pcs configuration. I will try to help but can not promise anything. It must be incredibly frustrating for you.
Hope to hear from you soon. The more detailed your post the more i can help.
Ignore the above post! I was under the impresion that your problem lay with the os not the corupted mmc(My bad).
Format mmc! restart n-gage and place something on mmc.
plug it into computer and it should work. Else you need someone with an mmc card reader to format it for you.
OK, I've formatted my MMC, but how do you restart it?? Do you mean turn it off then On again??? And when you say put something on the MMC, do you mean put something thats on the n-gage( like a picture) and put it on the MMC??
yep to both questions. do you have msn?
IF YES GIVE ME EMAIL SO WE CAN MSN
Sorry, I don't have MSN?? Say I got a image on the n-gage, how would I move it to the MMC??
Sorry about all these questions
I've managed now to move it to MMC, but plugged it to PC, still does'nt work, is there something else I need to do??
This is getting very enoying
Nothing at all. Man this is annoying. Where do you live? Not that i am going to come around to your house or anything. Try find someone with mmc card reader. If you got nobody you can send it to me and i will see if it works and send it back to you but only if you are in europe. Since dealing with post is a b*t*h. If it worked when you first got it and then just corrupted and dosent work on computer then i fear something went wrong and the mmc may be damaged. But without being there i can not confirm or deny this. I am sorry but other than physicaly cheking it i can help. Sorry
Live in England, I could send the MMC back and ask if it could be replaced, do you think???
You could try? Where did you get it from. I got mmcs from www.mymemory.co.uk. Got the 128mb and it works fine. Good luck.
www.pricestorm.co.uk
only 17.99 free P&P
I think I made the mistake when I disconnected by pulling the wire out wrather then doing it properly
Yea think so to. I have done it once or twice and nothing happened so i guess i was lucky!
thanks for your help, much apreciated
Sorry to barge in guys but I'm having the same problem with my n-gage. I have a 256mb MMC which was working fine for a day and now gives me the corrupt memory card message, i have switched off the phone and removed everything then put it all back and it still gives me the corrupt memory message, I am then given the option to re-format the card which i do but I still get the error. Any ideas? I got the MMC through work so getting a replacement shouldn't be too much of a problem but if possible, i'd rather not have to get it replaced (seeing as I am doing RMAs this week and the guy who is normally in charge of this has left a huge backlog which will take a few weeks to get through).
Many people seem to come up against this problem there is no definate solution. The only thing i can say is put it in an mmc card reader and reformat it there. Once done that put it back in n-gage and hopefuly all should be fine.
hi shadow12! i read in one of the forum taht you shouldn't format your mmc with your pc? i've got the same problem? any comments?
Exactly the same problem?
You mean you were in the middle of transfering something and your mmc got corrupt or did it just get corrupt during normal operation. As recommended by other just turn your phone off then on if that doesn't work try formating in n-gage and in the end try formating in pc card reader and place in n-gage. This is by far no definate solution it works for some others it doesnt i guess it really depends on the mmc. You got the right idea though search the forums and decide yourself what the best plan of action is. Obviously ask around if you are unsure. Hope that helps.
Good luck!
I have exactly the same problem. My PC and N-Gage were quite happy to chat nicely with each other until 'someone' informed me that I could format my card quicker via my PC. I asked this helpful person whether I should use NTFS, FAT or FAT 32 and I was told to use NTFS. DO NOT DO THIS!!!!!
It corrupted my MMC and now my PC has turned it's back on it. I'm hoping to get my card reformatted via a USB card reader later on to see if I can get the pair back on speaking terms again.
I'll let you know if this works and in the mean-time, if anyone knows of any better ways to sort out my problem, help would be greatly appreciated.
Which idiot told you NTFS? Was it this forum? All you can do is use a mem card reader as far as I know. Good luck
I've bought a card reader today to see if i can sort it out, so far it hasn't helped. Just out of interest, what should it have been formatted as? FAT or FAT32 (obviously not NTFS!)
And no, it wasn't on this forum, it was the typical, bog-standard, 'helpful', I-know-everything 'mate'!
in what sence the mmc card reader doen't help?
I believe it is fat32. Can anyone else please confirm this?
Dont want this guy to go through hell again.
