9210/9210i with MMS software

Hello!

Me, my friend and I are thinking to develop a software to the 9210 that implements a MMS function to the 9210. The question is if there is any interest in purchase this kind of software for approximatly 10-20€ ?

In another thread on this forum I heard at least 2 people say that they would pay for software like this.

So go make us proud 😉

I think there's a fair few interested people and no doubt if you could incorporate sending these messages (for which the supplied digital camera with the 9210 would be handy) if MMS really took off you'd probably get quite a few purchases.

yah i think it's big money if you can market it first... surely there are a lot of 92xx users out there that would like to have an MMS feature. 😊

waiting for the MMS software!

Where do I send the $? 😉

But do take heart that replacement model might be in the pipeline that will have MMS capability built-in.

I have decided to skip 9210i but a new 9xxx might be too attractive for me to resist.

I could consider buying MMS software.

On the other hand, I would be happy to send/receive MMS via an operator service where the messages would appear as email on my end. I assume data calls are the only usable way to send MMS from 9210. Using several SMS would be slow and expensive.

MMS i believe is an extended version of SMS, so you don't have to use data call to send MMS. it's like SMS - instant messaging. but of course it costs more than the ordinary SMS.

what makes this technology click is like what happened to SMS. it's instant, it's fast & economical. well, MMS rates will go down when there are more users and phones as well that supports MMS.

😊

I would be interested, as an MMS application that is definitely missing on the 9210 and it would make the phone almost complete.
And then Nokia should develop some add-on camera like Ericsson. 😉

Well MMS are really different from SMS.
When you send a MMS you connect to the network to an access point (for example mms.vodafone.com) and upload the message to the network.
When an MMS arrive you are asked to make the dowload from the netwotk.

At the end I will be very happy to have a MMS client for the 9210 along with a gprs connection 😊.

But the gprs connection is not something mandatory to send and receive MMS.

A MMS client should be really easy to build and implemente, look at what Ezos did with the PocketPc version of his Ezwap 2.5.

There is a camera designed for the communicator.
It's a irda camera. You take the pictures and you download them through IR to the communicator.
The all kit is rather large and heavy consider that you got in your pocket a normal camera like the old agfa and the communicator (no so little).
Why don't you consider to add also the gps module and buy a bag? 😊

Byez

Ifyou can make a module like the gps unit it wouldn't be that extra heavy, then I just could hang another case on my belt for the 9210 modules 😛

Yes, I knew about the camera, but first of all I think you cannot get it anymore and secondly (I tested the camera myself) the picture quality is rather poor (compared to 7650 or P800).
A camera module of the size of the GPS module would be great. Without some "good" camera connected to the 9210, MMS is just half the fun.
(Haven't you seen the lovely Nokia ads on TV for the 7650, at least here in Finland!)

Didn't see the adds but I agree ... maybe someone can make a tutorial how to make a cheap webcam into a addon for the 9210(and write software).

Haven't found any of them in local stores .. besides like allready said ... nobody takes a full camera with him all the time ..

But then you have the hassle with the infrared and I think it is not so convenient as if the camera would be directly at the phone.

/me ducks and hints to Loonyworld to do the same....

Depends are you likely to be taking that many photos that you will need a camera's ability all the time?

A picture is worth 1000 words, it's gonna be a bloomin' long senctance if you are making it out of pictures 😉

"And then Nokia should develop some add-on camera like Ericsson."

The 9210 doesn't have Nokia's add-on 'pop-port' interface, so I doubt there will be an add on camera unfortunately. But it's also good for receiving MMS (picture messages).

You guys who make the Messaging enhamcement software for the 9210 - lets have MMS support too! 😉

Anyone know of any cheap digital cameras which have IR?

It's not so big and the quality is 640*480 like the 7650.
It's only not so portable to handle 9210 and another gadget all together.

Ciao
You can use any camera with IRDA transfer with the 9210 there are quite a few out there.
Really?
Never seen any....where they are? 😊

Pretty much all HP cameras have IR, some Minolta ones do, some kodak ones, and I think Sony were the other brand. Fuji did on a couple of models, but don't think they do on modern ones. (that's brands off the top of my head from when I was looking for and IR one)

I like more Canon or Nikon, but I cannot remember if there is one with IR. Konica has one as well I think.

I personally have been (practically) begging someone to develop a MMS software for 9210. In my country, MMS is the in-thing right now. Almost everyone bought a 7650. Now with 6610 also soon to be launch in November, 9210 without a MMS would not be much anymore.

I would happy shell out for MMS on the 9210. To be honest I really cannot belive someone hasn't created already.
