We already discussed that rumour. Read the whole topic before you start crying in capital letters. The only iPod with battery problems was the first generation iPod [5 Gb, Mac only], and it didn't last 18 months, Apple refused to replace the battery for free after 18 months, that's something completely different.
we are now at the third generation, and there have been practicly no problems, some DOA's, but they get switched for free.
Only post something when you know the whole story.
🙄

I'm thinking why I'm spending so much time in a person who doesn't know what he wants.... that's what I'm thinking.
Back on topic:
The dock is simpy to connect the iPod to the computer, or a stereoset without having to lay it on it's shiny back, so it won't get scratched. And no, not all versions get a dock. only the 20 and 40 Gb versions get a dock. But why am I even writing this? By the time I have posted this you've probably found another mp3 player.
dude i apprediate ur help but im the kind of guy who likes to research a thing before gettin it
thanx again
I can respect that, but when you look back at the topic: you're doubting between 2 models, when you figure out which one you want you suddenly come up with a third one. Than, when you go to the store to compare them, you go back to your first choice, but a day later you come up with again, another model.... so [to me] it does look like that, sorry.
But I can tell you this much: there are dozens of models. And practicly all of them are good, in their own way. Each model has it's own advantages an limits. So question yourself real hard one the things you want to do with it.
- You want it to play music. [ duh.... ]
- Must it have a recording function?
- Which kind of storage do you prefer? [ flash-memory or harddrive ]
- Which filetypes must it be able to play.
- How much storage, for which price. [ Mb/$ ]
- Must it be compatible with sertain music programs?
- How long can it play with a charged battery?
- Has it got an equalizer, and how many presets?
- What is the quality of the sound? [ test this with your own headphones. ]
- Has it got accesoires?
- How does it organise the files? [sort by album, playlists, by alphabet ]
Personally the only two that I like were the Philips HDD 100 and the 20 Gb iPod. I chose the iPod because the sound was better, and it was the easiest in use. It can sort by album, genre, artist, composer, you name it. And you can manually create lists of your favourite tracks with one finger.
Good luck hunting, and dispite my previous post, feel free to ask.
To add even more to the confusion, I was reading a group test of Hard Disk based MP3 players last night. Although the iPod was declared as being by far and away the best overall (build quality, ease of use, sound quality), the Creative jukebox won overall on a performance/pound basis.
On amazon.co.uk, the 20GB Jukebox 3 is 180, the 20GB iPod is 290. And the Jukebox 3 comes with an FM tuner (though it is bigger, heavier and - IMO - doesn't look as nice).
Yep, the collection of mp3-players is one big jungle.
However simply choosing the cheapest isn't my thing, I choose comfort first. So I chose the iPod.
i love the ipod and was gonna get it so went to ciruit city but there out sold so when i came back home i was gonna order it but saw the dell mp3 player and wat i liked about them is they put a comparsion chart which made me change my mind cause of the battery life
