Nokia Series 60 Theme Studio - How to get it working in XP

I was going to say lots to this but here is a link instead.

Selected the compatibility tab and changed this however when i try and put a background into the theme it simply doesnt do it. whats wrong with it????

i just found out how it works, i saved the theme i was working on under a different name, "like 'save as' "..then i closed the prog. and went to the theme studio folder and found a folder called "new theme" !...and there was my theme...i opened theme studio again and found my new theme listed..."wasn't listed after i saved it 'as', i had to close the prog. i clicked on the theme and then make a .sis file..."walla"....it worked just fine...
"i did all that after changing the text colors to black and white only, everything that comes ander color shouldn't be changed, the prog. doesn't accept that..."

I'd tried using the latest Theme Studio (with latest Java) and it's craaawling on a 1.5GHz P4 with 512 DDR... Uninstalled it already

hmmm well its very very very SLOW and freeze my computer for awhile..

is there another theme editor ? i used to use one theme editor 6600 somethign like that.. but wasnt working 100%

so any good theme editor ??? i am good at graphics so i want to make some themes thats if i got good theme editor.. and i hate Theme Studio.. very slow :\

Error with "-xms64m"!!! 😡

I hawe Win XP Pro.

Which Java Run-time Environment (JRE) version do you have installed? Install the version that comes with Series 60 Theme Studio for use with it.

Theme Studio is total pants

1) extremely slow
2) buggy
3) not worth the effort, whoever wrote this proggy needs a right good slap!

But I can't create SIS file beacuse it need a certificate....why? how can I create a theme without a certificates in SIS format?

i just created my first theme using s60 theme studio v1.2. i'm able to create the .sis successfully. but when i transferred to my n3230, i'm not able to install..
is it to do with the private key file and certificate file???
can anyone tell me the steps in creating or send me a sample??

right it's painfully non userfriendly. i managed to create a certificate file and a private key file.

open a command prompt. sorta like a dos (black screen with white fonts)
click start/all programs/accessories/command prompt.

type makekeys
its description should appear.

copy the example. then it should try to make one. please don't ask me how to put your own details in there cuz i can't do that myself.

after sucessfully creating a cert and a private key file, go back to theme studio.
open ur theme, go to checkout and click continue.

click on advance and put an x mark on both lines in the lower left corner of that small window. browse the certificate then the private key. the files should be saved in the "theme studio" folder in your C: drive. that's it.

unfortunately for me, my theme was converted to a Microsoft Office Tool Application instead of a .SIS file. :S

so, i am still unable to use my created theme... to make this story short. it's a load of crap and people shouldn't waste time on this BS!!!

need advice...have that nokia themes program. I also created a theme, but when I want to check out, it asks for a key and a certificate. But as I don't know much about computers and that stuff, I don't know how to create a key and so on. I also read the other posts...but I didn't understand much. So please could someone explain that all to me in simple (!!!!) words? Thank you in advance.

don't worry dud. this program does not rely on how fast is ur ram. i got a 1 gig ram and it's still shitty as hell!!!!

this is a big waste of ur harddrive space. uninstall it and just be contented with ur current themes.. hehe

Nokia theme studio 3.0 (series 60)

i have worked 5 days on a single theme, and now when I want to make installation file (.sis) it hangs.

after checkout---->Advance--->(after giving .cer :byebye: goes all grey and hangs even left it for hours like this but nothing :cry: 😞

when i close the makesis.exe from Task manager (Ctrl+alt+Del) "theme creation successful see report"

but no .sis created and also in report it gives the following error:-

I know someone has already tried to explain this but I followed his instructions and got nowhere at all!

what must i do when i want to create an theme for an nokia e61? there is no resolution of 320*240.

when i modify the BaseGraphics.xml with:

<layout height="240" width="320" orientation="portrait" >
<file name = "pql_av_qvga_lsc"/>
<file name = "pql_apps_qvga_lsc"/>
</layout>

i can select the new res but cant edit all areas in a clearly way 😞 any solution for this ? anybody must have done an theme for e61 atm or ?

theme studio installed without any problems...
but it's so damn slow....

is there any way at all to make it faster?

I've done some more digging about the hanging/crashing whilst exporting issue of the theme studio... Then I found the reason to do with the key and certificate generation process and a lack of detailed information in the "Artist's guide" instructions.

Basically, the important thing is to not use a password for the generated key file. This is outlined below (taken from the release notes of v3.0):

Creating private keys:
======================

- Open command prompt
- Select target directory, for example:
cd C:\Program Files\Series_60_Theme_Studio\S60_TS_3_0\bin
- Create a key with single line (where Nokia is replaced with your own
information):

makekeys -v -cert -len 2048 -dname "CN=Nokia OU=Themes OR=Nokia CO=FI [email protected]" nokia.key nokia.cer

- When password is asked, answer no
- For creating random number type about one hundred characters or move the mouse
in the screen.
- Notice �v key in the command (turns on verbose mode)
