Today's issue of Edge carries an article confirming the internet images of the next N-Gage. Mark Squires, Nokia UK's Director of corporate communications, talks about the new N-Gage. "The new device concentrates on the gaming side of things, and adds a number of changes," including Slightly smaller footprint (but thicker), 65,000 colours rather than 4,096, No more side talking, Hot-swapping MMC cards. In addition Mark Squires hints that the original "contains an MP3 player and a number of other things, like the radio," where as the new "device is a pure gaming experience." So it looks like the MP3 player and radio are not included.

But what if it supports only mono headsets..? 😞

Stereo MP3 is hidden from the programmin API's so there are no alternative stereo MP3 players for the original N-Gage. Also if N-Gage 2 doesn't have radio or MP3 capability, it will probably be mono device.

No it isn't.
There are various Players (not MP3 necessarily) that can output stereo as long as there is the hardware needed like Ogg Player, RealOne Player (version 4 can also play MP3), Helix Player (can also play MP3), as well as the latest version of SmartMovie. There is also word that emuzed Hiptunes can also output stereo (A modified version of it is built in Siemens's SX1 firmware).

i hope all the new n-gage games will run on the original n-gage

Hmm, I think sgf may be right, because I tried OggPlay a few days ago on my N-Gage and it converted my stereo .ogg's to MONO. It said something like "this device doesn't support 44KHz and can only play back the files in MONO"... It's a damn shame too because with a decent Ogg Vorbis player I could fit twice as many songs on my memory card.

2 will run 1 but probly not other way round. Oh well time to start saving those pennies. 😉

i think most ppl bought an Ngage 1 is because all in one device with Radio, Mp3, phone, and games

if this ngage 1.5 or 2 not going to have the all in one function i wonder who's gonna interested with this device, well Nokia said this device will focus on games but where is the games they are all talking about ???

just my 2 cents

N-Gage QD revealed!

N-Gage.com has been updated... As most of us were guessing, there is no such thing as N-Gage 2, but a N-Gage QD instead. =)

And Call of Duty was also announced for N-Gage

Note that the headset that comes with the new device is mono.

QD stands for quaque die, Latin for Every Day, because the N-Gage is available to you all the time, every day.

Gamespot have said it will be $99 with a contract and $199 without. Best bet is to wait until this evening Press Release.

The 199 price is unsubsidesed - the networks may save you a bit

Yes it's still12 bit, 4096 colour.

N-Gage and N-Gage QD will runn con currently in ythe sales channels os there is complet compatibility on N-Gage and N-Gage QD. MMC Games (yes even the new ones) will run on both machines.

I think Nokia are trying to build a 'family' of Gaming Devices.

I agree with the Family comment, If you look at the Sales Guide for 2004 there is only one device under Game Deck. Where all the other catagories (Classic, Expression etc.) have a number of units. (except Multimedia! but we might have to wait for Nokia's 3G offerings for that!?)

I see Nokia making a gaming device for many of the different markets & buyers pockets, with different specs to follow suite.

I am supprised the QD didn't appear in the 2004 Sales Guide?
